1973 3.0 CS in LA

Definitely not an almost $40,000 car as the condition of the engine bay, trunk area and interior with missing passenger side kick panel and swapped out seats, does not warrant the price. Missing the trunk carpeting and removable storage bin. Wheels with aggressive tread tires are unattractive IMO. I think the seller needs to reset his price expectations.

Boy, hope the winning bidder will not have any regrets with this less than an ideal coupe. Decent car at $10K, but $40K...no way. Hate the modern tacky Momo steering wheel, in addition to the ugly M3 seats. No offense to the seller, there will be no sugar coating all the various faults...but I call it as I see it.

from the ebay listing:

This is a well kept 1973 BMW 3.0CS. It has a 3.3 liter engine dull carbs.

Yea, fuel injection is so much more exciting.

But, why the Pep Boys steering wheel?

OK, if we are going to criticize as a sport who am I to sit on the bench?

- No trunk badge
- Spare well crude repaint
- Door trim held with screws
- Missing plastic cover on door handle
- Idles above 1000 RPM even though temp gauge is already at center of range

Pluses:
- The clock works
- Interesting front seats

I'll add my $.02.

Hmmm,... no pics of the left side of the car (hiding something or just lazy?).

Couldn't take it out in the sun to take said pics (see in parentheses above).

Cant spell "dual", "brake pads", or "shocks".

Tasteless mods.

Lamborghini in the garage - that explains it.

Missing carpets and a Speaker hanging out... Plus notice 12 bids by the same guy!

Check the bid history... The same guy bid 12 times in a row... Can you say shill or scam..

I know that I have said this before, but why so much negativity towards a good sale price on a coupe? Sure, it has some warts, but I am cheering for the owner to get $40K if he can (as long as he is not misrepresenting his car). Heaven forbid I would have to sell my coupe one day, but if I did, I would like to get good money for it. But I guess according to some here, only coupes at or near a concours level should get $40K. There is a saying that goes, a rising tide floats all ships; so, maybe we should look at this sale as a good thing for potential coupe sellers. We are our own worst enemies when it comes to value with our cars.

I'm off the soapbox.

No negativity here. It is called "crowdsourcing" and is all the rage nowadays. The collective eyes and concience are the best way to be informed and transparent.

Both parties are getting a pre-purchase inspection for free.

I am more skeptical than most, especially about peeps selling used cars, but those aren't necessarily individual bids. Those could be bump increments caused by another bidder(s) without exceeding the highest bid already placed.

I'm all for the Seller getting a high price for his car if he was a lot more forthcoming on the car's condition. There is a lack of high resolution photos and description of the car's deficiencies. A good example of a well described and detailed car description was of HackMechanic's (Rob Siegal's) coupe that sold very recently. All of the warts and any positives were highlighted/described with a large number of detailed photos of the car showing its condition. When selling on EBaymotors, a Seller needs to be a lot more forthcoming than this person in order to merit a high price for his car.....it seems a bit perhaps that the wool is being pulled over a prospective Buyer's eyes.

That would be the difference (really big difference) between someone trying to make money on a car (not that there's any thing wrong with that) versus moving it on to the next care taker... unfortunately, I haven't learned the first technique but I'm quite adapt at the second which is not nearly as profitable.
