Shipping car from US to Germany

Has anyone been thru this excercise before? I would like to find the 'cheapest' method to ship a car from the US to germany. I have heard that the cheapest way is to drive the car to the NY port and arrange placement in a container. anyone with more specific info and prices or a POC where I could check myself. thanks. roll on / roll off ship is better provided ports nearby are serviced. what ports are you looking at (i have a friend in this business and can ask for an outline for you).
