Just completed a suspension/brakes/steering rebuild on my CSL.
fitted a set of Bilstien sport shocks , BMW progresive springs and polly bushes, E12 M535i thicker antiroll bars, new steering arms, and brakes have been refurbed with new drilled discs, also fitted new stainless steel exhaust with 6 branch which i bought from Fritz bits ,car now sounds much better without been to loud, and hopefully it might squeeze a couple more bhp from it. it also now handles 100% better than before with much less body roll and feels nice and tight ,even on rough roads (which we have plenty of here in the UK).

Great job. I'm curious about those calipers. Did they come that color or did you have them painted/powder coated ??

As I am considering similar treatment, do you happen to have a photo of the wheels taken from the outside of the car so that I can see how the caliper looks through the wheel ??

Great looking undercarriage, thanks for sharing. David, I would caution against powdercoating as the process calls for heating the object ~ 400F 200C which would cause the seals to melt. If you are thinking about disassembling the calipers to powdercoat you would need new bolts and nuts which I believe are NLA and o-rings between the caliper halves. I am opting for a good epoxy paint. They do look really nice and with the drilled disks even better.

Hi David,
The calipers are painted with smooth hammerite paint, funny thing is , i had the calipers clean ready to go on the car and at the last minuite after not being able to find the right colour i wanted :cry: , I came across this gold hammerite that looked terrible on the lid colour ,but i thought well it will have to do for now ,yet when i painted it on it came out more or less exactley the colour i wanted. and luckily not the colour of the can lid :lol: I will post a couple of picture so you can see the calipers through the wheels.

Your undercarriage looks beautiful. And you say the car is used primarily for off roading? :)Is your garage hermetically sealed?

Now I have to ask, when you park a car that nice, can you sleep at night if the steering wheel is not perfectly straight?

I use this car more than most owners proberbly do, i have just posted a short film of it racing the standing 1/4 at Santa pod race way against a E46 330d sport and the week before it was being raced around castle donnington race track on a CSL/M power track day!! where i came off the track hitting the gravel trap at around 70mph.
This car gets well used. There is a 4 page spread on the car in Novembers Total BMW magazine available on 19 Oct 07.

Maybe its my monitor or my eyesight, but while admiring your undercarriage I noticed what appeared to be copper-colored hard brake lines.

Are they copper or the more traditional steel, but copper toned or colored?
