View Full Version : My car "hiccups"

What are some of the possible causes for my car to "hiccup" when I'm driving down the road? It happens at all speeds. The tach will fluctuate wildly. It acts as if it is momentarily not getting fuel, but the filter is new & there are not any leaks.

One time it actually just cut off entirely while I was driving...almost like it ran of gas, but after a few minutes I was able to start it again.

Many thanks.

Clogged fuel filter, or dying fuel pump, perhaps?

Once again, the tach is telling you something. Especially with carburetted cars, fuel issues cause the tach to move smoothly. If it twitches, you have an ignition problem. It is on the low voltage side, probably a connection problem or the breaker points if you still have them. Under what conditions does it appear? Hard acceleration? High revs?
