From the shots of the master cylinder in the engine compartment does anyone recognise the brake system this guy is using? Or is it an 'in-house' developed system?

It's difficult to tell from the pictures but it looks very like a BMW Hydrualic servo and master cylinder from either a E24 or E28 the old 6 and 5 series cars. The pressure is supplied by the power steering pump and there is usually a "pressure bomb" somewhere.

An alternative is to use an electric pressure accumulator from such vehicles as late classic Saab 900's with ABS,

If your car is LHD it should not be a problem, Right hand drive is a nightmare!
