hello-
i am very new to the board. have recently aquired a 74 cs and received only one key. i believe this is the original key as it has dimples along the sides and has a leather pouch. i wish to purchase another set of keys. can i do this through my bmw dealer or is there a specialist i need to contact?

TIA

Terry, I sent a photocopy of my key to Santa Monica Lock and Key, they made a two copies that work fine

Here is their website: http://www.santamonicalockandsafecom.verizonsupersite.com/locksmiths/

Celtic, did you choose Santa Monica because they "specialize" in reproducing keys? I have a photocopy and tracing of a missing storage pouch key from my '86 328 GTB (Ferrari). Sounds like they might be able to create a functional copy?

Terry, I also have a '74. Is that leather pouch OEM?

lens-
how can you tell if the pouch is factory of aftermarket? does it have the BMW embossed on the leather? mine does not just a black snap button to keep the key in the pouch and another snap where the key pivots out when being used.

Terry, not sure how you can tell, apart from a tell tale logo. My keys came loose, without a pouch. I was just curious.

FYI- just called santa monica locksmith from link provided above. was quoted $20 per key and $10 for shipping. this is an aftermarket key and no leather pouch.

There was a leather key pouch available from BMW. It's NLA now.
