Hi,

After two years of restoration my car is almost ready ,so this is time to share some info+pics.

This is an italian delivered matching number car gone thru a nut and bolt resto job to original standards. No upgrades, I want the car to look and feel like it just left the factory.I keep the petri wheel, and the original ALPINA 14" wheels though.

Any thoughts appreciated. thanks

Bela22, Looks very nice. I noticed in the engine compartment photos what appears to be a new firewall molded foam pad (along the top of the wall). I did not think these were available from BMW. Is this a custom made piece?

thanks,

Sven,

it is a NOS part,I`m not sure if it is still available, but can find out for you if you wish.

Yes, please, that would be helpful.
Thank you,

Bravo on your work so far! I would definately go with the 14" Alpinas and the Michelin XWX is a really nice added touch. Have you considered the yellow paint hashes that BMW put on the nuts on the suspension components?

I just bought a new firewall pad from Maximillian, BMW OEM... quite pricey, seems like well over $200, but sure makes the engine compartment look better. It comes with adhesive already applied, so just stick it on! Only one or two through-wall lines need to be disconnected to get it in.

When ordering, insist that they mail it in a flat package... Mine came folded over, hence a couple of permanent creases... I should have returned it for another at that price!

Thanks, I just found it on their site. I will make sure to request it in a flat package.

Spectacular resto. See if you can get the hexagonal tar strips that go above the front fenders. Maximillian might be getting them in. This would really make your engine bay look even better.

Great job!!!

If Maximilian is getting new sound insulation parts from ?????, we ought to ask him to find someone who can make the fairly simple felt liners that go under the rubber liner outside the rear side windows.
I have asked W&N and they have no ideas or suggestions.
All surviving E9s surely need these.....!!!!

Jonathan,

I don`t think I`m willing to change the tar strips, and respray that area after so much work ,just to have the hexagonal pattern. But I agree it`d look even better.

Fantastic period looking tires. I have them on several cars. The only drawback is that they are too wide for the trunk floor board, causing it to sit higher than the right side panel above the fuel tank. I guess one could add wooden shims to the right and forward panel, thus bringing all 3 panels to an even level. It´s about 1/2 inch difference.
On the other hand, with the carpet on top, for a non-concours car, it doesn´t really matter.
The easy way out, is to use a 195 tyre on the spare......

Bela!

Great works you done with your car!!!!

I'm impressed.

Regarding to the photos, you are “almost” finished and maybe have done the first test run?

I see there are a lot of new parts. Do you follow any budget for this restore?

I believe a lot of us (me included) do not keep track with the costs to restore an E9.
(I've saved all the receipts with my restoration so far, but do not dear to summarize them…) Perhaps when the car is 100% done, I will do that.

Bela, keep on posting pictures to influence all others on this forum.

Beautiful restoration...I would be afraid to take it out. One question...if its a CSi that means its european delivery...didnt' all those cars have the rear fog light next to the reverse lights? Mine does...so I am wondering if its country specific. Mine was an Italian delivery.

Great looking car. I currently have everything out of my engine compartment and doing an engine rebuild. What did you do with your engine block, exhaust and power steering? They look black in your pictures. Were they sandblasted and then painted? Thanks. Jeff

Hi,
thanks for the comment.
The exhaust system is new(BMW).It's was cut in pieces for transport (before I bought it) so the welding is painted.
I don't know what exactly was done to the other parts,I'll ask the guy who is restoring it for me.Yes they're black.

Stefan,
thanks.No I haven't tested yet.
Yes I do have record of the money I pump in it.Is's quite costly.
At the end I'll let you know of the total,so the group can open a discussion wether I could sell the car fot the amount I invested.
