She is a 73 3.0cs with a M90 3.5 (L) stamped motor / Jetronic . She had a euro rear with lots of euro upgrade including a buffalo hide leather interior w/ Zebra wood . Per Mobile tradition she started as a 73 Fjord blu 3.0cs.

Whats next :

Reblock the primer.
Make sure all lines are crisp and sharp then paint and clear.
Refinish all wood panels.
New carpet, headliner and custom red leather interior and 2 front Scheelmann seats.
Refinish all Alpina wheels and install new rubber:D

I've always liked the look of the fully cleaned metal coupes. I almost wish you could just put a clearcoat on it and leave it perfectly paintless, like the very few stainless steel coupes.

As for the rubber, just wait until you get the prices for those parts. Ugh, made me cringe.

Your car is looking great. I am very envious.

I getting ready to paint my coupe and I'm curious as to what type of primer (manufacturer and brand name) did you go with and the same for base coat and clear.

Any compelling reasons supporting your choice??

Thanks.

I don't think a rebuild is .. Bad news

I can't see you doing all that work then driving around and having it smoke , piss, and shutter.

Now you can do something wild to the motor.

You have a good point Barry. My good friend has a new rebuilt 86 head with a CSL 272 cam ported and polished and ready to be installed. I had the valve cover and plenums powder coated .Ordered the head gasket and few jewels from Carl Nelson. Ordered all the hoses ,clamps , studs , bolts , AC struff etc and had the heater core taken out to be checked. The dogleg tranny has been installed with a new M5 clutch and the 3.07 diff. While waiting for the head to be done I am having the rear diff mount welded and reinforced. I really thank good friends Terry and Don for all thier help and knowledge. Without them I am clueless. Its always nice to have E9 proffesionals by your side.

Im very happy with the body work. They maticulously revived every single body line all straight and sharp.

Glad to see you and Gabriel have responded so well to my near-constant harping about those body creases. :)

After your 2002 Turbo was compared side-by-side with another Turbo at the Brisbane Show this past Spring where we compared the (crispness of) roof creases, it appears as if you got the message.

(I'm sure there were 2002s present where the roof creases had been completely obliterated.)

On the your Jabberjaw E9, the lower body crease is straight, crisp and and sharp - from the front wheel opening to the rear -- and artful restoration of the factory lines.

Excellent work! Something of which to be proud!

Delia

I absolutely do not mean to be facetious but what is the difference between "staggered" alpina's and stock BMW rims. To me , they look exactly the same except for the hub caps and "alpina " markings. I am obviously missing something but I don't know what.

I could not figure out what post you are responding to, but here is an answer of sorts.

I assume "stock BMW rims" here refers to the 14x7 CSL alloys, which used the same size wheel on all 4 corners. The "staggered Alpinas" commonly refers to 16" wheels with 7" wide front wheels and 8" wide rear wheels.

Thanks Bill. I was referring to the picture on top of p5 of this thread with the picture of the Alpina wheels. Looking at the picture I could not see a difference to the wheels I have hence my question.

Thanks to Don L. and Terry C. My coupe is now running. Took him today to get the toe adj. Next is to install the CSL front spoiler and fix all the bugs then she is done.

A couple of questions: Does the sound deadening material on top of the wheel wells really help all that much? It seems, with the engine there, that the compartment space is already noisy, and that the most critical space to insulate is the fire wall area (between cabin and engine bay). I am reluctant to put the material back on my coupe since is was partly responsible for trapping moisture and rusting out the top of the inner fenders.

Are you using the eccentric bushing at the two pivot mounts to the rear subframe to allow adjustability of the toe in at the rear wheels? Or is there another way?

Thanks,

It's going to be beautiful, but too nice to drive!

Bill, good to see you here! Hope all is well..
Atan888's car/cars have that uncanny ability to bring out the masses to see!

Best,

Paul

Hi Paul,
I was fortunate to meet Alvin at the West Coast Concours last summer and see his 2002 Turbo and E30 M3. They look even better than the pictures.
