And yes that large inter-cooler it sits right behind you....!

I had 1986 944 while back now picked up for a song, repaired, modified it, probably should have not sold it was very good shape for the age, in then end I installed a LSD, Bursch exhaust header with just the test pipe, and muffler loud, but not overly so... Someday again soon I hope? 935... probably not ... more like a nasty 911 Targa..

That is gorgeous - stick up a few more pics.

What do you guys reckon to the pre 70 912s - they seem like a cheap car versus the 911 although a proper engine rebuild for them is big bucks.

I've had a couple of 912s before the 911, and I think they are an excellent value for money, evry bit as nice as the 911, and even though they are certainly slower, they drive extremely nice and smooth.

I have never rebuilt a 912 engine, but donīt think it should be that expensive.

I especially like the real early 912s, with the 3 gauge painted dash.

I don't own any P-Cars but am a fan. I have a question though. I know where there are 2 1997 993 Turbo S's for sale. One with 400 or so miles the other with 200 or so miles. One black, one yellow. I'm wondering if these would be good collector cars.

Yes they are very highly collectable cars.

This is my '71T "RS" clone. It's been my DE car since 2002, and I did my first club race at Lime Rock a few weeks ago.

The 3.2 in there now will be sold for a 2.7 to better fit into PCA stock and vintage racing.

79' SC with a short stroke 3.2, twin plugged, PMO carb'd motor and a major diet- this is what I bought after I gave up on my first e9 resto and needed a break from rust (can actually drive it in the rain too)... and a very early E to be restored.

I saw there were one or two other P-owners here, but have only just seen this thread...

At 18 I had a 911E. In that shade of brown. It looked as rough as anything but was solid - I rebuilt the brakes and suspension, ensured it ran well, and enjoyed driving it. Sold to an older gentleman who completely stripped and restored it - you could have eaten your dinner off the underside by the time he finished.

Much later came my first 928 - an '86 S2 in Rosewood. I bought it after we decided not to sell or house and move... The following week, someone knocked on the door and offered cash for the house. We moved, I sold the car. :(

Next up was a Grand Prix white '84 S2 with Strosek wheels, bodykit and suspension. Lovely.

And I've recently sold my '90 GT. That had some significant mechanical departures from standard and put out just over 340bhp at the wheels. OK, it's not a power-monster like some cars mentioned here, but it was very, very quick for a daily driver.

Good times.

Believe it or not -that E color was "special order" meaning you had to ask for it and pay extra.:o

When Max Hoffman ( famed USA import Distributer and racer) was asked what his favorite colors were he answered- all the special colors- they didn't make that many.

The earlier similar color was Togo. Believe it or not I've seen cars intentionally painted over factory original to that.

But beyond all that- it seems the cars with one off colors survived better in some ways in a lot of car makes. And now, what goes around comes around- nostalgia colors seem acceptable now more so than in the day when they weren't terribly expensive used cars.

I had a Sepia Brown '72 911T from 1976 to 1980. It is the one previous car I wish I still had.

I also had a rusty 64 C Cabriolet that I bought to restore, but never got started. The best thing about it was that I was able to sell it for what I had in it!

Here's my old '67 911 zip-out rear window targa. I bought it in 1986 from original owner, sold it to someone locally a couple years later and still see it driving around occasionally! Fun car but don't miss it as much as did my first coupe next to it.

Had a 64 Karmann Coupe freshman year in college (couldn't legally have a car freshman year at UNC, so loaned my 2002 to my brother at language school in Monterey..had to park the P off campus..) Burgandy with an orange pass door, removeable hardtop. Muffler fell off daily. Paid $900 for it in 73, and sold it in a year or so for $700. Eventually it went to Oklahoma after a resto, I was told. Hard to fix rust when a poor college student.

Currently a 74 914-4 bought in 83 and waiting re-assembly after paint (no rust..) That was in 98 maybe? Sitting in a guys shop, dry and cozy. Cant decide whether to keep it and finish it or sell it...Need to do something.

I have seen two 944 cars for sale here in the valley recently. Both were in excellent condition...selling for under $5000. Why so cheap?

GTSilver944
11-29-2010, 03:02 PM
944s have probably hit their low point in value. 914s were dirt cheap ~10 years ago. Now a nice one costs quite a bit, at least for an 80 hp car. Same with 912s a while back.

944s are fun little cars, cheap compared to E30s, and they don't have rust issues. If you're looking at getting one - the later cars (85.5+) have a better interior. The normally aspirated 2.5L doesn't have too much power. The turbo and 3.0L S2 are fairly quick, but all of them will put a smile on your face on a twisty mountain road. Clutch job and timing belt/rollers are the two things to look into. And as with all old cars, buy one in good condition and it will cost you less in the long run.

Love the P cars been with them on and off since the 70's as well...
356A, 914 2.0, 911T...should never have sold the 356 or any of them...but young and _______ at the time.

Now I have a '79 928 (Opalmetalic) great for the street or track, well balanced and a little heavy though.

The 928 is considered a Shark just like the e9 is...

Twas the night before Christmas and the Porsche was dead
Should I work on the car, or go straight to bed?

Everything was connected, in proper place
What was I missing? My steps I'll retrace.

The wires were nestled all snug on their plugs,
Just waiting to fire, new pistons and jugs

And Mamma in bed, and I in the shop,
I twisted the key, a sputter, a pop

When from the back end, there arose such a clatter,
I banged my head, then my lip got fatter

Away to the engine, I flew like a flash
Tore open the lid, and burnt my moustache!
I grabbed the extinguisher, just in time
And stood there in awe, like a motionless mime

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear
A gas leak, and tin work, and decals that seared
With a little old screwdriver, so lively and quick
I tightened the clamp, What a DIPSTICK!

More rapid than eagles my curses they came
Oh I was pissed, but I was to blame

"You, IDIOT! You, FOOL! You're STUPID and a BUM!
You're PATHETIC! You're a HACK! You're a TURKEY and DUMB!"
Back to the ****pit! A twist of the switch!
Now crank away! Crank away! Crank away bitch!

As gas started gass'n and sparks started spark'n
They both came together; the exhaust started bark'n
So up on the tach, the RPM's flew
I'm going for a drive, beyond my curfew.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard from the house
The pissing and moaning, of my strict little spouse
As I backed out the door, and was turning around
Across the driveway she came, with jacket and hound

She was dressed and prepped, to go for a ride
How could I fault her, we all got inside
We motored with snow, billowing over the roof
Too bad this tub, isn't rustproof!

Her lights-- how they twinkled! Her handling how merry!
Her temperature was rising, I was smitten by Ferry!
His cool little car, ripped down the road
Hope we make it back home, without getting towed

I was excited and nervous, white knuckled the wheel
A friendship was forming, like B.B. and Lucille.
My smile grew bigger, from ear to ear
As I threw in the clutch, and shifted the gear

We slid and dog tracked around every turn
I redlined and redlined with little concern
The smooth power curve, of the Maestro cam
Guidance and books; I'm happy as a clam

I continued to drive, through the downtown
Past carolers and skaters, without a letdown
And easing my shoe, into the throttle
We headed home, with no further doddle

As we pulled out of town, a sweet buzz and whistle,
Escaped from the bursch, like a lethal scud missile
And the list members heard, as I roared out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a Good-Night"
