Someone asked "are those really called dagmars?", meaning the protrudie things on the front bumper. Yes, they are called that. Indeed most items of that ilk are referd to as dagmars and by going here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dagmar the reason will become obvious.

In the time that I spent in England, I was told that they were "wobbly bits"...

The items referred to are front bumper guards. Dagmars refer to a particular style of front bumper detail as found on the early to late '50's Cadillacs. Round, fulsome and usually pointy, on either side of the car's front Name came from a stage and screen character substantially more busty than Ms Jolie.
The E9 front bumper wobbly bits do not qualify as 'Dagmars' IMHO.
ps/ck
Or you could be really boring and call them "overriders".
However with all the news about John "Two Jags" Prescot becoming John "two shags" Prescot it brings a whole new meaning to the term.
Speaking of which.....
Question.
Whats the similarity between John Prescot and Ikea flat pack furniture?
Answer
One screw in the wrong place and the whole cabinet falls apart.
Sorry I thought it was rather good
Where's my coat

PFFT! Dagmars were named after an early 50's television personality who went by the stage name of "Dagmar" http://members.aol.com/jeff94100/dagmar.jpg
She appeared on NBC television's Broadway Open House hosted by Jack Paar, and was voted the most photogenic girl on TV by a nationwide poll. In 1952 Dagmar starred in her own TV show, Dagmar's Canteen.
The front of this 57 Chevy has dagmars on the sides, and overriders in the center...which feature do you think looks more likely to have been inspired by Dagmar?
