    Hello from Calgary 2280296 2800CS

Welcome Tom. Sounds like you've had a great start. The restoration virus is worse than COVID-19, and Canadians are not immune. You lucky Albertans don't need front license plates that ruin a car's appearance. The 2002's front plate is cool though. I shall follow with interest. Paul

What to do with bumper reinforcement?

Thanks guys. They aren't with me. I believe they are welded in. They would have to cut them out. The back bumper brackets look intact. I can't quite figure out if the front mounts are part of the reinforced bits. I'll ask for another picture.

What to do with bumper reinforcement?

Was going to replace my '74 bumpers with earlier more graceful euro-style bumpers that I found used. They were set to be re-chromed when they noticed steel reinforcing along the backside of both the front and rear bumpers. I guess this was a gray market bumper reinforced to appease US...

    W & N order

I have about 300 euros worth of stuff to get - engine gasket set and nuts and bolts set make up most if it. Rick and I could go if no one else wants to join. We could ship to his connection in Blaine or just into Canada.

    Engine lift problems

Hi Rick, Our thought was to tinker with taking an engine apart. With Obi-Don-Kenobi's help, we were able to figure out it is an 1983 block with 1985 head, so not original. I asked our local BMW deal if they had the shackle. They said it's only available from the German warehouse. Don's...

Paul's Folly: A Great White North Restoration

Thanks guys, Mark is right, I do wish to give it a more Euro look. The bumpers are okay if there is a lot of traffic and you need to protect your car, but I think the car looks more graceful with the Euro bumpers. I do want to fix some rust areas, so there is mission creep... I might as well...

Paul's Folly: A Great White North Restoration

Alan is right, I have been delinquent in my thread. Went into dream mode, thinking about what to do with the car, Then acquisition mode, buying stuff for the car, Then dog-house mode, when She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed figured out that our PayPal account was being used for the car... Now I'm in back...

Hi Mark, I disconnected in front of the front muffler, took the back end out and then detached the down pipes from the exhaust manifolds from below.

    Engine lift problems

Hi gang, Sending my E9 off to Don for a little TLC. My only job this whole year has been to get the engine out. Just like my teenagers, I wait until the last minute to do my homework! I've take off most of the paraphernalia the repair manual suggests. I have a few stumpers left though. What...
