E9 in the movies (or at least Apple TV miniseries)

Hey guys, well the show that my E9 was used in will be out next month, May 17. It's called The Big Cigar. I can't find an Apple-made trailer to include here but there are some others out on Youtube and here's a brief on the story, characters, etc...

    possible failing alternator advice

Well guys, a nice ending to this story -- had my original alternator tested at my local BMW vintage shop this morning and she tested fine! And the $90 remanufactured backup AL45X I got on ebay tested at 13.8 volts too so I'll make that a standard trip comparison for me going forward (plus the...

    possible failing alternator advice

10-4 Don and I just found a used AL45X on ebay for $90 bucks that I will try to have rebuilt and then swap over to have a spare that I can rebuild too. Chris' store in Maryland still does alternator rebuilds...

    possible failing alternator advice

Thanks, Don, Chris, Steve, etc. Chris, you are right, I was assuming an external voltage regulator was simply attached outside the alternator housing - duh! I will try the local rebuild route...

    possible failing alternator advice

thanks Don, I should know that by now :). Do you recall what alternator I had installed? It pre-dates your engine swap so my guess it's AL45X but I can't locate any part numbers on it...Can I install a 41X, 44x or 46x?

    possible failing alternator advice

And another thought, since my long block is from a Euro 1984 635CSi, the Bosch AL46X seems to be the direct replacementa and there are more of those available...

    possible failing alternator advice

Thanks, again, all, I will definitely get my alternator checked out before doing anything. I do like the external regulator mount units as the wear and tear part is easily swapped out...but I don't see many AL45X units for sale and I'm not yet thinking towards the single wire internal regulator...

    possible failing alternator advice

Thanks folks and this is clearly above my amateur electrical knowledge. I also attached my current alternator which, if I'm not mistaken, looks like an 85 amp unit? Other than might lights, I don't need lots of amps as my only stereo/amp since getting this car in 2007 has been the inline...

    possible failing alternator advice

Hey folks, getting my e9 ready for Sharkfest and decided to pro-actively replace my 7 year old battery with a new one. The local auto parts store also tested my alternator which I've had since around 2009 which also got a new (externally mounted) voltage regulator courtesy of my friend Chris...

Engine rebuild and engine bay resto thread - 2240284 '72 CS

Hey Steve, hope the rebuild is going well. What are you having Don do while he's in there - assume some resto-moding? FYI. I was driving my other German classic, a 1987 Mercedes-Benz 16V, from Virginia to Nashville TN a year ago to a mechanic who's similar to Don in so many ways (E9 savant...)...

Center link and outer tie rods kit from WN

Thanks guys and let's see how things play out post Sharkfest for a visit, Chris. My work will have a lot to say in that decision as we get closer to prime time.

Center link and outer tie rods kit from WN

Thanks, Scott, the more I think about the option the more I like it, plus I'd get to see my old friends Chris and Tom Baruch who moved down south a few years ago. @ Chris, maybe I'll take some extra time off after Sharkfest and head to your place afterwards, or we can consider something mid...

Center link and outer tie rods kit from WN

Thank you guys, I’m either visiting my local mechanic or maybe visiting Chez Ohmes house with lift and tools, and lots of expensive wine!

Center link and outer tie rods kit from WN

Hey folks, excited to get my full kit from WalloftheNesh just now - center link and outer tie rods. I'm not sure if my current hardware is original or just really beat up and not looking great. Is this something myself with mediocre (at best) mechanical and basic tools can accomplish in the...

AC electrical gremlin - calling all electrical gurus

Happy ending, guys. Don just wrapped troubleshooting and repair. The AC fan switch green wire had a blown undersized 15 amp fuse put in by someone before me. And there was a loose ground wire too. After putting the console trim and shifter back, I enjoyed a nice drive down the street and I'd...

Excellent Tesla Cybertruck review - Jason Cammisa

wow guys, I never intended to ignite a debate here on EVs versus fossil fuels cars...those that don't like/support EVs do promote some facts and figures that are not entirely correct anymore. And who wonders about the carbon footprint of oil production to produce a gallon of gasoline, or to put...

Excellent Tesla Cybertruck review - Jason Cammisa

When I drove my first Model S in 2012 after its debut (I was a product planner at Audi at the time) I was amazed at the sheer acceleration, near silence and lack of vibration, but also taken aback at the build quality, fit and finish and general steering and handling feel which I felt was...

Excellent Tesla Cybertruck review - Jason Cammisa

Well, about 180 degrees removed from our beloved Coupes, there is finally the Cybertruck to understand and ponder...4 years ago when I first saw this I thought it was a joke and that it was a mad interpretation of form over function. And I don't care much for Elon's recent political forays much...

AC electrical gremlin - calling all electrical gurus

Thanks, all, and this is quickly evolving into a problem about my skill level as chasing this down would seem to need removal of lots of stuff!...I agree that there seems to be an issue somewhere between the blue green wire exiting the fuse block and the AC fan switch, unless I'm not measuring...
