Just bought a Manual Transmission

I Just bought a Getrag 262 Manual Transmission for my'72 3.0CS today. Does anyone know about these types of Transmission? I did a google search but didnt find a whole lot. Any suggestions from the BMW folks out there?? Much appreicated.

The Getrag 262 is the car's original manual transmission, unless yours was one of those ZF models.

It is a 4 speed non OD box. It has an external TO arm, actuated by the external slave cylinder.

What else do you want to know?

Assuming it's a 262/5, it's dimensionally and functionally the same as a 265, except it's a 3-piece case, the center section (IIRC) being the extension for overdrive. If it's a 2-piece case, you have a 4-speed, which is also usable, but why bother?

edit: if you can tell us what car and year the trans came from, it might be easier to ID.
