I have a '91 complete motor with all ancillaries.

Based on all the info on this forum, I will be changing the intake system to the log / L-jet style to clear the booster. I also will be using the b35 oil pump with the original pickup and my original oil pan.

Apart from that, what can I keep as is from the B35:

- Alternator?
- PS pump?
- starter?
- flywheel?
- AC compressor?
- oil filter housing?

I am not concerned about original look.
Thank you.

I'm in the same boat.

The B35 alternator is kind of funky looking w/its ugly intake. I'm hoping to my my E12/internal regulator alternator on there instead, but don't know if has the right clocking.

I was thinking of keeping the PS pump. AC comp, I'm putting a Sanden on mine.

The Oil filter housing...looks easy to change filters, but kind of ugly and wondering if my top-bolt/E12 version will work. Looks more period correct.

Your B35 has a flywheel? I think since mine was an auto car, it's a flex plate and I'd need to use my old E9 flywheel?

Starter, isn't there a mini version from an E36 or ? that's recommended?

the 1st thing is the b35 oil pump will not work with the early pan with out a tad bit of tweeking , The pan that you want would come of an 82 or newer e28, 24, 23 car , those pans are deep enough to use with that pump, when changing the pans to get the accessories to work you should pick up the bracket from the same car , , it will be a bit of a puzzle , but it will work ,
after years of racing M30 you really do want the later pan it holds a tad more oil, has some baffles to keep oil from sloshing around as much , etc. etc

also you can use the intake that came with the engine , it' s a tight fit but it works . the down side is most of those cars had hydroboost so you would have to make your own vacuum port for the brake booster, then the second issue is making a hybrid throttle cable/ rod system , neither of which issue are difficult to overcome

you need an e32 or e34 starter from a m30 car, those starter's will fit any M30

Keep the starter. You can use an e28 alternator from a 535i, get the brackets. The a/c will work. You'll need a motor mount adapter, ask Chris. I think you can take the pump pick up off your e9 oil pump to make the e34 pump work. you are going to need to figure out which fuel rail you are going to use and then find the appropriate regulator.

Thanks all. I appreciate the info.

From what I gather, neither the alternator nor the PS pump will work because they are connected to the oil pan which needs to be changed in order to clear the subframe. . Either to the e9 one or, as Brendan mentioned above to an 82 or later e28, 24, 23 one.

@Mike, yes I forgot to mention I was also getting the passenger side motor mount special bracket.

You sure? I'll have to take a closer look at my B35 in my garage.

It looks like the there are two lower brackets that connect to the B35 pan...the AC, which is more of a support piece and the power steering pump, which also acts as the tensioner. As the power steering bracket also mounts to the alternator bracket, that may need to be changed.

It looks like the AC bracket would likely be OK without the oil pan piece, but has anyone fabricated a bracket to connect to either the pan or something else for the power steering pump? Or if changing the brackets to the older B30 units, could you still use the newer alternator, PS, etc?

you're right. So I think one must use the older M30 brackets for PS/AC to use the older oil pan.

But I don't know if you can use the existing PS pump/AC comp.

As a follow up to this, I've been searching for PS/Alternator solutions. This bracket also appears to come on the E24 and a few other M30 cars. It has an extended bottom portion that allows you to bolt the power steering pump to and not connect to the oil pan from what I can tell. It also seems to accommodate the newer power steering pumps. They're even available new. The part number is 12311708343

Where do the other small brackets come from that attche to PS and Alt. Also how about the PS pulley? Is that stock 3.0 CSI pulley?

Right, but I want to use the B32 bracket as above. I'm thinking I can keep my E12 alt and my stock B28 PS pump.

Looks like I need all this stuff:
