Mystery Knob

I've never been able to figure out what this knob on my dashboard is for. It must be some kind of aftermarket or dealer-installed accessory, because I haven't seen it in any manuals or parts diagrams... Has anybody seen something like this before?

The back's a little hard to see behind the hazard and defroster switches. Nothing's plugged into it, which would explain why it doesn't do anything! Question is, if it was hooked up, what would it do?

I'm assuming that these are what should be plugged into the connectors, but in the absence of a wiring diagram, I don't think I'll try doing anything with them...

Any ideas?

Aha! Well, since it's got a little '90s tape deck now (with removable faceplate!), I'm guessing this is completely useless at this point. Wonder how many crappy stereos this car has gone through...
