It's an official certificate showing the same data you can get by email. It costs $50 if I remember correctly. I suppose it adds to the provenance and possible value of your car. Seems like most BMW owners are ok with the emailed info, I've seen more of these with Porsche owners.

A fitting ending.

Was the rear trim panel upon which the rear license plate is usually mounted, polished or chromed?

A 72 but door panels were done ala 74 and no access plugs for window motors. Only 2800CS had the chromed panel.

I honestly did not look at the description and the representation as "original" or from the standpoint of "originality," or the asking price. Some obvious poetic license may have been used regarding the word "original." To my eyes, the presentation, with its new wood and saddle-colored interior is outstanding and maybe even better than "originally" delivered. Maybe, instead of describing it as restored, "reborn" or "reinterpreted" is more appropriate. Strangely, although some of the photos looked like nachtblau, one or two made me think it had a non-original agave'ish hue.

I have since read (below) where the car was originally an Italian delivery and wonder about the front turn signals, that were typically two-toned. Were all Italian E9s and E3s originally fitted with the two-tone front turn signals? Perhaps not the fairest of questions, considering that different jurisdictions might enforce the same regulations differently, but I will ask it anyway. If an Italian livery E9 was re-registered in another European country, e.g., Deutschland, would that have typically necessitated replacing the two-tone lenses with the solid amber color lenses?

This original CSi was built on 17-1-1972 at BMW in Munich, on 27-2-1972 ist was delivered to the BMW importer of Italy: BMW Italia S.p.A in Palazzolo, Verona, Italy. The car has always been driven in Italy and was taken off the road in 1989. Since then it belonged to the collector Alessandro Lelli. From 1989 to 2014 the car was in the dark, underground garage in Castel San Pietro Terme.]

That's where we've found this CSi. Parked in the corner of this dark storage. Still in it's first paint, original and not messed with, with only 99 thousand kilometers. This car deserved a good restoration. And that's what we did. VIN 2261307 was completely taken apart for a perfect paintjob. All trim off, all windows out. The paintjob has been done perfectly, in the original color Nachtblau-Metallic (Nightblue). The E9 body by Karmann wasnt famous as the best structural design. This body was and is perfectly rustfree, beautifully straight and with perfect shutlines. The italian climate has been very good to this beautifully shaped BMW. After the wonderful paintjob the car has been reassembled with lots of hours, love, money and new parts. Parts like seals, rubbers, blinkers, mirrors, trim, chrome etc. are either new or in a great condition. The 5 wheels have been powdercoated and fitted with 5 new Michelin tires.

Technically a lot has been invested as well. The original, matching numbers engine runs perfectly. The car has received a major technical overhaul with all new fluids, rebuilt injectors, many new gaskets etc. The braking system has been rebuilt with rebuilt calipers and main cylinder. New braklines and hoses. The exhaust is completely new with from stainless steel.

The interior has been professionally reupholstered in tan/beige leather. The doorpanels have been redone as well. The carpets is brandnew too. Headliner, dashboard (crackfree) and center console are the original ones from 1972 and are in a great original condition.

I wasn't complaining about the interior btw. It looks gorgeous. I'll remain a seat tuck snob at that price point though.

Nothing against nachtblau, but if you do a quick comparison between the blue surrounding the "restored" paint ID tag, and some of the images directly above it, some of those "other" images have a different tint or hue. Or maybe its the caffeine in my java? Or the glow of the outstanding interior.

Or, maybe it is finally time for me or the photographer to change our lenses to a rose color.
