Hi Everyone

Am a newbie on this excellent forum and owner of a 3.0 csl uk model city pack for the last 15 years.
Am contemplating some minor upgrading after running around with it in its current condition.

Can anyone please tell me exactly where the VIN number is stamped on the body of my model.
I, of course, have the VIN number on the plate in the engine compartment and just want to compare
that with the VIN number on the body.

Hi Carol, it's on the driver's side (RHD) ....on the back of the engine firewall just near where the little bottle/reservoir of brake fluid is located. Cheers, Simon

I havent had a chance to look for the VIN yet as the car is currently not with me.It is having some work done on the engine idling at my mechanics.
The car was imported from the UK in 1978 and I have had it for 22years.The VIN is 2285492. As with most things that you have had for a long time it is slightly neglected.
Having seen all the amazing things done to cars by members of this forum I feel guilty about letting it go neglected for so long.I am hoping to start getting the car into something
resembling the cars in this forum but maybe not to the extent that will take years or cost too many$$$. The body is still in good nick. the parts that need attention are the bumpers ,the upholstery and some shiny trims and map pockets on the internal door panels are missing.Hoping to get pointers from this forum when I embark on it.Will send some pictures

Hi Carol,
If you send a email to [email protected] to Julia Oberndorfer she will send you the built date and original colour of your car also
which importer it was originally delivered to, just provide the VIN. Nice to get some history of your car.

Are you living in Malaysia Carol? I wouldn’t think there would too many CSL’s there.

Hi Simon

I couldnt locate the VIN stamped on the body. Maybe it is not visible because of the paintwork over it.
Can you pinpoint the exact location from the photographs attached so that , if need be, I will have
the paint over the location removed.

I am enclosing some photos of the car and in particular, the areas of the engine bay where the VIN
should be located as indicated by you.

Should be seen in your first picture, the rectangular space between the nut holding the fan cover on and the hood latch, just below the gasket.

Hi Carol,
You might find it under that black rubber strip in your photo?
Here is a visual reference of where to find the VIN stamp. ie just in front of brake fluid reservoir.
Keep us all posted :)
