Yes you can swap the vinyl. I don’t want to deviate from this offer though because it is hard to find matching original red vinyl ashtrays...
rather than worrying about the vinyl - remove it and put perforated metal ... and gut the ashtray to put your tweeters there.
Inquiring minds would like to see the tweeter install behind the faceplate...
mine looks a little different but its a similar approach - this is the source of the idea. i have a different tweeter. i didn't put the blank off plate behind the perf metal. for the time being i just put some black cloth there .. but i am just going to paint the inside black so the metal doesn't reflect light and show thru the perf metal.
