I ran some when I was much younger in the 1980s. I started hearing about people getting shin splints and other problems so I stopped running. I still did a lot of walking and biking. A few years ago I also started mountain bike riding in addition to road biking. The mountain biking is more...
When electronics are overheating you smell something burning or degrading. That is a type of evaporation but is done as the molecules are breaking down. It is usually some kind of plastic material. It can even be coating that is burning or degrading.
When I bought my 2800 CS in 1980, it had the fan bolted directly to the water pump with longer bolts. I have continued to run it that way with no problems. It does whir a little at high rpm but that is not of great concern to me.
I was having a slight overheating problem around 2009. It...
Maybe my mirror is different but I had the glass in my 70 2800 CS re-mirrored many years ago. I don't recall exactly what I did but I think I just flexed the plastic housing and slipped the glass out. Putting it back in was similar. Maybe sometimes not knowing what you can't do works out OK.
I was gong to say nada because I don't care for stickers. When I saw Stevehose's post, I remembered I still have a BMWACA sticker at top, center windshield.
You are right. My 70 Coupe has no charcoal canister. The fuel tank evaporation line goes directly from the reservoir in the trunk to the air filter housing fitting.
I got into an argument with a smog inspector about that charcoal canister before my car became exempt from emissions testing...
I think friction does become a part of the mechanism that holds the hood up as it ages. I don't know if that is its intended design. I am sure the intended design is for the spring action to hold the mechanism in place to hold the hood up, at least when it is new. Proper adjustment of the...
I have run standard Valvoline 20W-50 synthetic oil in my 2800CS since I rebuilt the engine over 30 years ago. I have not encountered any wear problems. I may have initially used Duckhams 15W-50 oil because Crevier BMW was recommending it at that time. It became difficult to find so I switched...
A new torsion bar is strong and the hood will not fall from a puff of wind. I am sure there is a point where wind would be strong enough to knock it down but it would have enough velocity that you would certainly know the wind could be a problem.
I did the same thing of lubricating the...
I am no shock expert but it is my understanding that the nitrogen pressure is on the oil to prevent the oil from aerating while going through the dampening orifices due to velocity and heat. The hydraulic action is still there but is improved with the nitrogen pressure. Yes, Bilsteins do...
That sounds like a blast. I have been racing an Austin Healey Sprite in SCCA for 35 years. While it sticks well in corners it doesn't have the power to require applying power smoothly unless it is raining. I am usually either completely on or off the throttle. It would be nice to have to...
The road to Hana is a great road but many years ago you would not have wanted a coupe on that road. It was so rough with pot holes that is was a challenge to just make it to Hana. Last couple times I took the back way out. Different scenery but still a little rough.
As I understand it, it was made correctly in gravity but lack of gravity created the error. Difficult to compensate for without prior experience.
Thanks for your efforts Drew. I am sure the risks are worth the adventure but I am sure there are always concerns.
Sunroofs certainly can be installed aftermarket. My sunroof was installed by American Sunroof after delivered to the US. It was an expensive installation. I was told it added almost 50% to the cost of the car when new.
You will probably have to adapt a different muffler for the 2800 CS. I bought a used OEM one, that was is very good condition, from Mesa Performance a couple years ago. That was the only correct muffler I could find for my 2800 CS.
