If you are going to use the car a lot and on motorways/ freeways etc then yes, I would get a 5 speed.
If you have the correct 5 speed box that the 5th gear is not 1:1 - I would pop it in as part of the resto.
If you use it occasionally and some of that occasional use is on freeways...
Them their roads look familiar…. Look out for the sheep!
Still running in.... after a year - I will take it out to find my shi% the pants speed, probably less than the car will do….
this is for RHD cars - but may work for LHD cars if you have problems ( rhd have 2 servos)
I spoke to a old bmw service chap- and he told me the only way is this way –
Get a brake pressure bleeder like this

This...
Converting a RHD to a LHD will be fun - if you do - keep all the RHD stuff inclding the steel that you have to chop out of the dash support frame and see if you can sell it on the site.
I guess there may be someone in the UK wanting to convert a LHD to RHD as our cars rust to hell and the LHD...
If this list is still there - please can you add me on - and if there is an option for the black slats that would be fab. if not i will go with the standard one
Thanks
Marc
Mine did not have the part no 11 spacer washer when i took it to bits - plus the bolts i have ( picture ) only just show threds through the nut.
What i have forgot - and now its a pain - is washers on the bolt end as per the picture (12) - looks like 2 big jubilee clips to compress the...
Has anyone had this problem before?
The rubber prop shaft joint has given way it was a new Meyle 314 261 1101 part that was £55.00.
It went with a Bang…..
The original manufacture was a German one made by Goetze that I took off the car when I restored it – did not use it as it was probably...
On the city packs they have a tool kit just like the CSi and the weight of that stops it smacking your face off.
On my car it kicks up about 18 inch and then sits at that height.
But you can take the torsion bars off and bend them too not be as harsh.....
Running with 1 bar could distort the...
If everything you have tried has failed, and you make a mess of the original threads in the block trying to drill / pick etc – all is not lost.
I had this issue with an aluminium casting (UNC thread) with steel stud that broke off below the casting….
I did everything – but restored to drilling...
This was a problem I had where the door window edge did not align up with the rear window overlap, so in essence the overlap of the windows was not constant- this caused a few problems - 1) looks terrible 2) issues with the glass getting too close to the door chrome trim and fowling it - this...
I would recommend taking off the silver paint off the contact areas of the disks - the paint when you first use them may cross contaminate the pads.
I was unsure if it was some sort of special paint that would burn off - but did not take the chance knowing my luck the brakes would have faded...
All the cars rot away and most in the same places - so there is lots of panels and advice- mine was just as bed as yours- but 400 hours of metal work is good fun.
My view is - enjoy the process - what else would you be doing on a cold winters night..
Interesting car with quite a few different features to the UK city packs.
Apart from the obvious things that look like they have been changed out – the hood/ bonnet on the inside has the brackets like the CSI have for the struts that hold the hood in place – is that normal for an aluminium hood...
My black ones were bad - they had some sort of sticky pad on the inside but had lost its tack.
I re crackeled mine and used black 3m winscreen sealant ( the one that is non setting - bit bit runny when new but frims up aftera few days)
The 3 m stuff allowed me to rotate the bezle to seat...
Since the restoration I have been enjoying driving the car. and so far, it’s been faultless apart from the way it sits.
I got a full new set of springs and should be 30mm lower, but the car sits low at the back.
The front is very firm and the back is softer when I put my ass on the wings and...
its odd - when i finish a resto i feel quite upset its done - and then i start looking at the other restos on the forum and going on and think - oh i fancy doing that again... but then i am most odd!
But i have this old Allard to do next so that will keep me awake at night....
The car is finished apart from tracking, the CSL decals, wing mirrors and a good clean. (Not been cleaned yet!)
Took it today to the garage to check its tracking – caster and camber – and apart from the tracking all was fine and within tolerance – this was something I was worried about because...
