Wow.. has it been said before that these are beautiful cars but terribly engineered? I always end the day exhausted and slightly deterred by how much "progress" I've made after working on this car.
"This" is an e46 convertible. I'm not sure yet how much I'll be putting under the e9, but I cut off what I definitely will not be using.
I did some measuring, and the two door e46 has almost identical measurements. Outside rocker to outside rocker is a 1/2" wider on the e46. The frame rails...
Spent another Saturday working on the car. Still in the dismantling stage:
Here's a shot showing the rust from below:
The front half of the left frame rail is gone. Right side needs no work.
Pulled the engine out:
I jinxed myself by saying this looked like one of the easier engine to...
Am I Mike Yaskin? No. He's at my shop often though. Refers to us as the River People.
I'm working on my first e9 right now. I'm going to attempt a z3 front and rear suspension swap. As I was taking the engine out yesterday, I decided on the front as well!
I love that you're a few steps...
Well, I finally started tearing it apart. I forgot to take a picture while I had it up in the air, but I have a lot of work to do there as well. Left side rail is basically gone. Right side is solid.
I've decided I'm going to "Rat-Rod" this car. Think I'll cut the floor out of an e46 and...
...But I'm not sure which direction to go with it (red car). Part of me wants to rat-rod it because it's pretty rough. The car has been sitting since the early 90's. I've never brought a car back from the dead like this. Previous owner said: the previous owner told him; that the engine was...
I was watching with you. I couldn't believe it went for that much. I was tempted to order a third party inspection of the car, but didn't. They would have gone to the car, taken a bunch of pictures and documented any damage/rust in a report. I think we'll see this car again. I don't know...
Now it's at $9300. =(
What would this car be worth if it were running? That's the question I'm asking. I'm trying to get it, but can't really justify $11,000 after fees and tow across the country.
I'm hoping to be. It's been relisted. Was wondering if the current/previous owner was on here to tell its story. I have a couple engines I could put in there and two e9's I could use to re-wire it.
I'll add them to the list soon Stan. Thanks Peter and Gary. Funny thing Peter, I was brought back to this site because of an add for your e9 on panjo. I'm a third of the way through your restoration thread. I wonder if I have seen your car before Gary.
My current intentions are not to...
