Hello, I am replacing the door check strap in my 3.0Si. The original unit looks like the one from my 1980 BMW 528i (see photo) but it is shorter (see photo). That unit does not seem to be available. I was wondering if anyone knew whether the check strap in the other photo is a drop in replacement or if modifications would be needed. Thank you!

Hi Brewster - there are a bunch of threads on this. I did the Mercedes Benz door brake "upgrade"

Chris, There is no guarantee that the MB brake is the right length for an e3 but cheap enough to try I guess. The BMW replacement brake works, it just looks different.

Apologies Brewster - As Chris rightly points out, I've wandered into the e3 forum again.

I use these all the time for 2002's They work great and look just like the original style and are way cheaper. The only issue that I run into is that they allow the door to open much further, too much I make up a 10mm spacer to go between the new brake and the body

Thanks, Rick
