I am actively looking for front calipers and front rotors. If I find a source, will let you know.

I've got stuck front calipers, which make each brake event a roll of the dice as to which way the Coupe will self-steer.

mesa performance

i just got new rotars, pads, and front wheel bearings from mesa performance. they have calipers as well. its a good idea to replace your frnt wheel bearings while you are doing brakes - easy and cheap.

Jaymic in UK to buy discs

If you still need brake discs then Jaymic say that they do them. I also need some, so if you find a better place or perhaps higher performance discs please let me know. I am not confident that my brakes are good enough, or put it another way I have got used to a modern car huge discs and sometimes get myself into trouble.

front wheel bearings

dq,
each frnt wheel has an inner and an outer bearing - each bearing consists of a race and the bearing. the bearing comes right out, the race has to be pounded out of the wheel hub using a stout screwdriver. carefully press/pound the new chase back in place using a suitably sized washer, or if your fancy, buy a set of race drivers at harbor freight for $28.00 (i finally broke down and made this purchase last time, worked great!). then pack the bearings with grease, put it all back together, and you are done. the inside bearing is held in place by a rubber retaining ring. so for parts you need 4 bearings and 2 rubbers retaining rings - the whole shootin-match was less than $30 from mesa.
im sure the blue books explain this much better than i just did, so chk there before you dive in. even if your bearings were just marginally bad, you will notice a big difference.
hope that helps,
alanmcg

E9 front discs 272 X 19 E24 630/633/635i front discs 280 X 19.
Assuming all else being equal between the two types of discs apart from the diameters, is there any reason why a pair of E24 discs couldn't be machined to reduce the diameter by 8mm in order to fit our E9s?

The early E24 front discs are 280x22's. I adapted a set of these to my Bav by reducing the diameter and installing the 10mm spacers in the front calipers.

Guys,

all ventilated front E3 and E9 rotors are 272x22 and available for about €50 each from BMW, W&N etc. so there are no reason for adapting or machining the ones from E12 or E24.

The E3/E9 ventilated rears are 272X19 - cost about the same.

Darn it, misprint, I did mean 272 X 22 for the E9 fronts. Yes I know you can get them for that price but here in Oz we are not so fortunate. By the time you factor in the exchange rate and the exorbitant cost of freight it becomes more economical to seek alternatives. So, now that I know it can be done, i.e. machining, I will buy a set of new E24 discs locally available for $60.

No reason? How about 'because I can'? When it's Saturday night in the old garage and you want to put those 280x22's you got for $6 each on the front of your Bav, you do what you need to do.

cs brake rotors

i got my aftermarket replacements from an outfit in southern california. brakeperformance.com. i got the slotted crossdrilled for under US$150 per pair for the fronts. it is working out pretty good so far with several hundred miles on it. check out their website.
