Picked up this rear differential with a 3.45 ratio as part of a purchase of 2002 parts I needed.

Spins freely with no play. Stamped 11 38 on the side—which I think means this has a 3.45 ratio.

I'm located near NYC but can crate it up and ship it out at buyers expense.

Got around to draining fluid and opened this up to discover this is an LSD stamped S40 on the inside.

The fluid was clean, teeth look perfect. Pictures attached.

$1,300 plus shipping

Aren't you glad we encouraged you to delve further into this baby. A "for sure" lsd is much more valuable than a "maybe" lsd.

I'm grateful for the suggestion to drain it prior to shipping it out - I would have been pretty upset to learn I sold an LSD for half price when draining it before putting it in a crate for shipping. It would have been a nice present for whoever purchased it, however.

The stamps and clutch packs on the inside indicate the diff is an LSD - the markings on the outside of the case do not. I'll take a closer look later to see if there are any remnants of the S stamp above the ratio stamp, but on first look - it's not there or has worn off—I'm not able to determine the ratio precisely because of this discrepancy - only can say the case is marked for a 3.45. Maybe you can help me out?

I am sure your eyes are better than any image, but do you have any pics of the right side of the case where the numbers (and maybe the "S") are located?

Count the teeth...... It looks like 11 on the Pinion gear.....How many on the other gear?

Brilliant! Sometimes something so apparent alludes us. I often say to myself "it can't be that simple". In this case, evidently it is. :)

S is very faint but it's there. See photos attached.

LSD confirmed then. 11 38 means it's a 3.45 correct?

I have a special Hello Kitty steering-wheel-hub-spline-counting-pencil. I could have lent it out if I knew he was going to have to count the teeth manually.

Thankfully we didn't need to break out the Hello Kitty spline-counting-pencil and I was able to see and photograph the S on the side of the housing to confirm the housing and the insides go together lol.

I've got to assume the specialized pencil lives behind some glass with a very tiny hammer ready to break out the pencil for all spline-counting emergencies.

LOL Yes! A Hello Kitty hammer to be precise.
