73 CS has an aftermarket steel sliding sunroof with a white plastic latch in the center front for push-pull. No motors, no cranks, no cables, no cable tracks. It's a PITA to operate at the moment as it's missing a triangular nylon guide that raises it at the end of travel...which I can't look for until I learn the name of this thing. There's a non-BMW headliner, sort of a heavy white smooth vinyl.

Any clues as to who was making aftermarket sliding steel sunroofs in 1973?

Unless it is ,home-made’, what comes to my mind is this:

Perhaps they might have a solution for your problem ? Old and long established company
with solutions for BMW vehicles, however, if on the market already in the early 70ties,
I don’t know.
