I want to powercoat the air cleaner housing. Does anyone have the paint code for the light gray???

I found a clean spot on my air cleaner for the powder coat guys to match.
A grey with a slight bit of green I think....

Quite a bit of patina on my covers. Haven't found that "clean" spot unfortunately. Was hoping for a paint code given the color shift 40 years of heat etc has caused.

This has been discussed here on the board in the past. I don't recall if a specific color code was identified.

It is tough to exactly duplicate the color of the air cleaner. As Stan wrote, there is a hint of green in the grey. I did what he suggested - compared an unfaded section of my cleaner to the powder coater's color chips. We came up with something that looked good when comparing tiny sections, but not perfect when the whole air cleaner was completed. The color we chose lacks that subtle green tint.

seems to me that most colors in Germany of manufactured goods are defined by a RAL color - http://www.ralcolor.com/

i think wherever possible we ought to define colors for restoration purposes in this manner ... as much as possible.

RSPorsche, I agree. As seemingly dialed into detail BMW owners are I'm a bit suprised a code for about every part isn't on the web somewhere. May try the BMW Classic Center.
 
Check powder by the pound's online color chart. Are you doing it yourself?
 
This color has been elusive. I have the darker green version and had the underside of the lid scanned with the color machine at an auto paint store for perfect match.
 
Not doing the powder coating myself and agree the color is a bit hard to pin down.

A few phone calls (Pete and BMW) for a code. If I come up dry time to find the cleanest bit, hit it with some swirl remover and try to color match.

If I do happen to come up with a code I'll post it.

Great resource that RAL color chart. I have been trying to nail down the exact shade for my 2002 air cleaner. My first attempt with some powder was wrong.
 
I had a rattle can mixed at a Paint Store here in Reno and the guy said he could do a perfect match by color scanning my cover.After paying 25.00 for a can I starting painting and right away it was to gray not enough green.So being pissed about it I grabbed a can of Patio green out of the cabinet and started mixing the two by spraying at the same time holding the green can 6-8" further back and I ended up matching very close to the bottom air cleaner that I didn't paint.Not the best way but worked out.

I happened to have my air cleaner apart last night and marvelled a how clean the underside is.
