I found these roundels in a box of parts.
The letters on these are raised - I thought the c-pillar roundels were cloisonné.
Were these sold by BMW as replacements for the cloisonné ones or were they
used for a specific year?
Thanks for any info.
Peter

The only time I have seen that sort of C pillar roundel was on CSL race cars and a couple of CSL's like the one Ski Coach has that just won at Quail

I've seen those on a few 1974 CS coupes. Ski Coach and I have them on our cars as they look more in keeping with the raised letter front and rear roundels. I sold my cloisonné C pillar roundels.

can you show us the rear side of those ?
flat ends or threaded ?
they seem to me the aluminium painted ones, from old cars, 68 till 72

I'll put them on mine, so at least no kids get my cloisonne ones:cool:

They are easy to replace, get some plain waxed dental floss, wrap it around the roundel a few times leaving enough on both sides to pull. Slowly start pulling each side a little at a time, it should start to come out with some effort. The cloisonné studs are probably ribbed and want to stay put. When they are finally off, just push the new ones on.

Thanks all for the information.

deQuincey, here is a picture of the back.
The roundels have a metallic sound – I think they are aluminum.

deQuincey, a belated “Thank you” for all of your technical postings.

About a year ago i talked to the guy in Poland who had that type of raised aluminium c-pillar roundels for his e9 - and he told me that he bought them about 5-6 years ago as NOS straight from BMW, so i assume these were replacement badges.
They look good, even better with raised front/bonnet and rear/boot lid badges. But personally i prefer old type cloisonné they are more elegant (if are in good condition).

For no particular reason, the discussion reminds me of this image. :)

Roundels should be securely fastened before traversing this track.

This is how I'm dressing up the 2000CS trim....

They'll match my deluxe NK hubcaps

May not be exactly "correct", but should look nice.

Thanks Andrew! I've missed out on a couple sets of them in the last year, but after asking here and on FAQ, I was pointed to BTS in Germany, who had some NOS... not cheap, but I wanted them for this car. They are damned near unobtanium, I was happy to find them at all. I found another guy in Germany who has them with silver trim if anyone is interested... also expensive.

What I need are NK hood and trunk Roundels with the gold Serif script... I have one, but it's not in great shape. I see them around, but again, they are expensive.

Anyone have a lead on someone who can restore NK roundels with gold serif script? I have a couple for my '65 TiSA that could use some freshening. Thanks, Bill
