When trying to order parts by chassis number, BMW are convinced my car is an E24 rather than an E9, has anyone else experienced this?

yes ... i never use the VIN when ordering parts for the reason you are experiencing - the model is wrong because yours is only 7 digits where the others are 17, but they tell you to only put in the last 7

Some BMW Dealerships claim to be Certified Classic, try asking about 1973 2002Tii with the VIN & watch the parts guys synapses short circuit "It can't be both..."

It's easier to find whatever part online, with a few sites have to select Archive.
