Cheapest source for Bilsteins

Anyone got a good supplier for Bilstein HD front struts and rear shocks (1970 2800CS). Several suppliers offer the fronts at around $135/ea and the rears around $103/ea. I have looked and looked but cannot find anything at a better price. Maybe that is the going rate (if so then so be it), but it sure helps shopping around and asking around if someone else recently replaced their shocks and found a better deal.

Secondary question. I am considereing looking at Boges or Sacks. I can find front struts but have looked and looked for rears. They do not seem to exist unless these are the ones BMW sells for well over $200 ea. Anyone know of a source of these for the rears?

I had already looked at the autoparts warehouse web page and could not find any shocks or struts that fit my car other than a Bilstein HD front strut for $106 ea. Upon initial search several shocks show up, but when click on details, a message says they do not fit.

Maybe I missed something?

I got mine from Lajolla and the support is great for any questions, plus they really support us.
 
Decided to go with Bavarian Autosport with free shipping, $487.80 for all four HD's. I have no affiliation with them or any other vendor. Am replacing 20 year old KYB's that were on the car when we purchased at that time. Also are going to replace every front/rear suspension bushings including the front top strut bearings. Am expecting a big difference when complete.
Only concern is whether the front ball joints are okay, as the replacement control arms are not readily available. Option there would be to use the e12 arms and replace the inner bushing with e9 bushings if needed as was detailed in a recent thread.

can you please post the reference number of those front and rear HD bilsteins ?

here in europe, if i go through the bilstein webpage i can not find oters than the B6sport shocks, but nothing like HD

the references of the B6 bilsteins are:

deQunicey, I got a sets from eshocks before, I believe the numbers you got are correct. They still show a good price, cheaper with with postage than getting them locally for me.

Here is the part numbers from Bavarian Autosport that I ordered. Invoice says they are HD. Previous posts say not to get the sport for coupes. I hope I am getting the HD's.

i assume that once the reference numbers are the same it is on,y a question of denomination, in europe they call them b6 sport, and in the usa, they call them hd

there is another sport shock called b8, that i may think is the pne that is not reccomended
 
The B8 is the Bilstein Sprint, i.e. approx 20 mm shorter for lowered cars.

The B8 shock is suitable for cars with lower sport springs.

hi anders, i am going to change my standard springs by the one inch shorter CarlNelson springs

my car has bilstein shocks changed by the PO almost 7 years ago, those shocks had been working ok with the standard springs

so...can i use the existing bilstein shocks with the new shorter carlnelson springs ?

i do NOT want to go for a very rigid/stiff setup !

unfortunately I don't know the specs for the CN springs and have to pass. Anyone else?


I know though that with the 40 mm H&R-springs for the E3 you have to have shortened shocks like the B8 - otherwise you will have a brake-down when driving spirited...

I have Bilsteins with CN springs. The ride will be a little stiffer (due to the nature of having less spring) but the handling is amazing. Should work fine with your existing shocks. Did you get his negative camber plates also?

no i do not have negative camber plates, what are they ? explanation plus pics would be highly appreciated
i am in the right moment for this now !
 
thanks bob, ok, but

- how do you mount them ? do you use the original camber absorbers ?

they are not adjustable, so they set a fixed camber angle, what is the effect on the tyre wear ?

- is there really an improvement on hadling ? can you please explain a bit ?

- can you please share what was the final cost with shipment ? do you think they will ship to europe ?
