Most of the CSL's I see have the rubber lipped spoiler mounted with adhesive or some other method with no visual anchors.

My CSL's spoiler is mounted from the top (and has been since I first acquired it in the 80's) using screws with the finishing washer in the exact location as this diagram from a spare parts booklet someone on the forum posted a few months ago.

It's not as nice looking but is this the original method to anchor? See parts 14 and 15 and the associated placement of anchor holes.

Tyson is correct, originally bolted onto the trunk with 4 screws on top. The last 2 pics show holes in the metal spacers underneath Almost surely to screw the spoiler from inside the trunk, I’m assuming

Yup screws are correct. If a CSL owner opted to add a spoiler, I wouldn’t fault him/her for using adhesive instead of drilling into an aluminum lid.

Also, there were two spoilers. The early models didn’t have the ends molded into the underside. As seen in a member’s spoiler below.

Not my knowledge, I inquired with one of our German experts. :)

My take…….The spoiler in question was part of the big wing which in turn was in combination with the ‘whole spoiler package’ as seen in the pic, which were for the 1st & 2nd series Bats. The big wing and smaller spoiler were mounted on a steel and not Alloy trunk lid.
I could well be wrong but all of us who’ve (me too) added the small spoiler to our Alloy trunks have picked bits of the spoiler package (front spoiler, wind splits, roof hoop, small rear spoiler and big wing) as we choose. And as @Markos says, without drilling holes in the Alloy trunk lid. In the Germany with the strict regulations, the spoiler would have to be screwed into the lid (Alloy or steel) to be allowed to use it on the street, adhesive would not have been enough.
The 1st series Bats had a different type of spoiler (without rubber lip) in combination with the big wing

Rather than starting a new thread, since its on topic..

Does anyone know where I can buy the correct mounting screws?
What type of insert/threadsert/grommet goes into the trunk lid to receive the screw?

Many thanks!

With the developments in adhesives since the 1970's, unless you prefer the screwed on look or are planning a race car build, you will find adhesives (such as Sikaflex) more than adequate. Many modern car panels and trims are stuck on these days, not bolted or screwed on. These modern adhesives are super strong and stay flexible. (Ofter the screw holes on CSL spoilers got hairline crack damage due to the fiber glass and metal screw/bolt friction)

If you wanted to attach the original way, I think they used 4 x M4 flat head long bolts. And small plastic covers were glued over the heads to neaten up.

Thanks for the advice, I like the original look but I think I have decided to go sans screws.

I will put a transparent protective foil on the boot lid (under the spoiler) before I stick anything to the paint incase I ever wish to remove it.
