Dumb question I know, but I would rather check than screw it up.
Is this the oil level for the diff?

Yep- for the 2nd gen diff with catch canView attachment 98794View attachment 98795

an additional question, @sfdon

when the can is installed, is it full of oil, half of it, empty ?

i mean i understand that you have to fill the diff with oil, just like that of the non can version, and then you attach the can to it, but, should you need to pour some oil into that can before assembly ?

thanks

well Jesus- you always have good questions!

The Alpina version has a cooler and a pulley and needs extra oil.
The e12/24 version has a catch can and I have never put extra oil in it.

Does this catch can merely capture oil that might otherwise be discharged through the cap and onto the road? Said another way, does it primarily serve an environmental function? For some reason, I had thought that it increased the oil capacity, thereby adding a cooling effect, but I'm not sure where I got that idea.

Just a way to capture the vented oil.

Note the Automatic tranny catch can... otherwise it would vent from top of tranny down to exhaust
