A good dyno guy is a huge plus
Not just power but drivability.

On Saturday I saw a '78 320i at a junkyard 54 miles from me. I went for the flag mirror. If you are still in need, what is a reasonable price to pay for a set?

So the plan has evolved somewhat with the arrival of these two.......

Oh yeah! I couldn’t believe my luck when I found it. It was originally fitted to a UK spec right hand drive E12 M535i, built in March 1981. The engine on the right is from an April 1981 732i, so has the 86mm crank as opposed to the M90’s 84mm item. If my sums are correct, then we’re looking at an increase in capacity from 3453cc to 3535cc. I’ll need to do some research on safe limits of boring on the M90 block, but even increasing bore from 93.4mm to 93.5mm will see a capacity increase to 3543cc.

I’m now really curious about what we’ll see in terms of power increase, but more importantly torque. I think the combination of a Schrick cam (spec TBC), the 86mm crank, 320i intake runners and a few other tricks will see some interesting results. Time will tell!

Hi all,

I’m a new member here and I’ll be posting an intro in the E3 section with some photos of my two 3.0Si cars (both are original RHD UK late model cars with L Jet).

My question is related to the E21 320i intake runner modification that I’ve read a lot about. My intent is to source an E28 535i M30B34 engine and rebuild it with some little upgrades, to be fitted to my ‘77 car. I want it to look ‘factory’ so I’ll be running it on the original L Jet injection system. I am more interested in torque and drivability than I am top end BHP. The car is already fitted with a 5 speed OD gearbox.

Having done some research, so far I have found a number of different part numbers for the 320i intake runners. Does anybody know which of these I should try to find, and what the difference is? Or is it a case that they are a series of superseded part numbers referring to the same part? This is what I’ve discovered so far:

11611264725
11611264723
11611265800

11611262614

Thanks all!

this question is not e3/e9 related, and should not be here
it will be much better if you put it in the proper place, as off topic in this case

I totally disagree here, we can't move all questions and discussions on non-stock parts that are commonly used to upgrade our coupes and sedans into the off-topic section.

@deQuincey ,

I replied to your report but didn’t see that you posted here. This is 100% on-topic M30 related. I won’t be pushing any m30 performance and tuning questions to OT. We don’t have an m30 or motor forum and I don’t think we should create any additional.

We need to make a judgement call with clearly e3/e9 applicable topics that touch on adjacent-platform and/or aftermarket parts. The e9 never had a B34. It never had e21 intake runners. It also never had a fire extinguisher, or a three gauge panel by the shifter. The CS never had a factory scheel seat or a raid steering wheel. Where does one draw the line?

Hi all I don’t want to cause any discord here amongst other forum members. I guess my initial technical query has morphed in to a thread on other related subjects, but I’d hope that it is still relevant and of interest to other readers if they are curious about the subject.

It's your thread. Keep it as organic as you wish. If it is getting hijacked just kindly ask to keep it on point. If you want to pursue other subjects in the same thread - have at it!
