can you explain in detail why we would want to use this box instead of the oem that would be helpful instead of just posting the box

A bit of a harsh tone there. I would presume that he has one lying around or has been offered one. I don't think he was advocating that we all get one.

I don't know if it is a better unit, I can say the development of play over time is the same, based on having 2 E24's which are basically E28's or vice versa. The worm gear may be the same for all, I did not look at RealOem but I got a hunch and with that said, maybe a newer 535 box can be used for parts .

The main area of wear appears to be the worm gear, cage and bearings. I am trying to source these now but not having much luck. In speaking to specialists I have spoken to, they can rebuild and renew the seals but the issues of sloppiness at the centre will still persist without the mechanical components being renewed.

Thanks everyone for your replies. It was a question based on a ‘there’s one available; will it fit?’ scenerio.
