can you explain in detail why we would want to use this box instead of the oem that would be helpful instead of just posting the box

A bit of a harsh tone there. I would presume that he has one lying around or has been offered one. I don't think he was advocating that we all get one.

I don't know if it is a better unit, I can say the development of play over time is the same, based on having 2 E24's which are basically E28's or vice versa. The worm gear may be the same for all, I did not look at RealOem but I got a hunch and with that said, maybe a newer 535 box can be used for parts .

The main area of wear appears to be the worm gear, cage and bearings. I am trying to source these now but not having much luck. In speaking to specialists I have spoken to, they can rebuild and renew the seals but the issues of sloppiness at the centre will still persist without the mechanical components being renewed.
