I have two tanks, one removed from car (euro '70) is larger, thought to be original, than the smaller/shorter spare.

Which would be the original size?
What are their capacities , 15 & 17 gal?

According to the Parts Book, 2800CS 55 liters, 3.0CS thru '73 70 liters, '74 US 72 liters. The blue factory manual only lists the 70 and 72 liter capacities as the 55 liter tank probably was no longer available by Jan 1976.

i know for a fact that the 2800cs tank is shorter than the 3.0cs tank as i have a 2800cs tank sitting on the ground in my garage and i saw Gary's (m5bb) tank a week ago on the floor of his garage. tell me exactly where you want a measurement and i will check

Trying to determine if smaller tank is from a 2002 possibly?
Smaller tank bolts right in and offers greater ground clearance at the expense of range.

Do 2002 tanks 'drop/bolt in' to an E9?
