Woooo!

I was accepted into the MechE graduate program at...

drum roll...

Texas A&M!

So, I guess that means I am an Aggie now, in addition to a Techie.

The coupe will have to stay in Atlanta since I am a typical poor grad student. The whole car is essentially on hold for the next few years until I can finish grad school and get a job to pay for it all. As it is, I think the best option for me is to patch up an old airhead R-bike to use as daily transport, due to gas and operating costs of my E34 540.

I will still be checking on the board regularly, of course.

Gig 'em Aggies

(and no Aggie jokes...for a while)

Are you an alumni?

I'm actually down here now trying to find a place to live. The main thing that shocked me about the place was the size. TAMU is the size of a moderate city, even without the town. Compared to GaTech, you could probably fit about 10 GaTech campuses inside the main TAMU space, not including the stuff off the main block. It is just absurdedly huge compared to what I am used to.

And what the heck is with the Frontage Highways? Who on Earth thought that was a good idea? It makes the place a warren of different "highways" that aren't highways.

Not an alum, lived in Houston for 4 years. There was never a time when there wasn't an Aggiee joke floating around. Probabably because I worked at UT Medical Center.

Frontage roads, kinda like excess highway space. Wait till you see a traffic situation and the ole boys in pick ups just drive off the highway to the frontage road without using the exit ramp!

Well Done!
I end up in Houston once or twice a year, guess it's not that far away
Know what you mean about frontage roads - wierd, but then again there is plenty of room in rural Texas
Good luck and have fun

Oh, I'll still be around. I may not have the car at my disposal, but I'll still contribute to the board.

A belated congrats, welcome to the fold, you can't go wrong.

See you at the Chicken when I get there for a game this fall.

What's "The Chicken"? The only thing I know that would fit that description is the Big Chicken in Marietta.

X,

You're in for a treat if you like college football.

First and foremost, it's always Gig'em Aggies, never anything
like "go aggies" or "yea aggies". Real knowledgeable fans refer
to the school as "Ol'army" or just plain "Army", particularly during
games at stressful situations such as short yardage plays or field goals.
It goes well with an expletive of your choice. Oh, we don't cheer,
we yell, that's why it's called "yell practice". If you have a wife
or GF, take her, if you don't, the fishin' good, at least it was for me
back then.

Couple of things about your first post.

You'll probably learn the significance of the drum roll at your first
halftime.

You came real close on the "woooo", its actually "whoooop"
but you'll learn that a the first game too.

"The Chicken" otherwise known as the Dixie Chicken at North Gate,
best experienced on an early fall afternoon when its not too hot and not
too crowded, a good shiner bock and some warm longhorn cheddar
and crackers.

In time you'll learn the significance of the "brotherhood" you've joined
if you learn to embrace it, though sometimes with a grain of salt.

Enjoy your matriculation and get your ring, it'll get you farther than
you think.

GT is a great institution too, but nothing compares to uniqueness
of A&M.

I have to admit, Tech didn't have all that much which was terribly unique, we were too busy having our souls crushed under the boot heels of guys like this:

http://www.cripplingdepression.com/comic_jpgs/profofdeath.jpg?1005950156

which reminds me of a certain Dr. Paul Neitzel, as I'm sure the other GT alums on the board will readily attest.

or like this guy:

...so we were all too tired and crushed to really do too much other than sleep on the weekends.
