Despite BMW Part Numbers different measurements my Friend did on 2000CS seems to lead to conclusion the roof section is the same as for E9.

This is very important to find out this is really true as my E9 needs desperately new "hat" and it is much easier to find 2000CS for parts than E9.

Does Anyone was able in the past to look on the construction details of both roofs design?

For me the most important is "skin" of the roof, so if the differences are underneath (reinforcements) I don't really care.

Rear view mirror attaches differently on 2000cs than e9. And 2000cs headliners don't use the headliner bars.

Thanks for your fast feedback. My bad I did not looked on the 2000cs parts catalog before.

My friend's measurements were than correct.

I see also the frame has different PN according to your information.

Also 2000cs has no sunroof option.

Do you know if the roof profile is the same for E9 with and without a sunroof?

It is important question as I would like to keep the sun roof and utilize roof skin without a sunroof opening to replace rusty one by making an opening.

In my current understanding it would be much more professional than just making a patch panel on the rust holes as I will need to remove the skin anyhow due to rust spreading under the reinforcements.

What do you think?

Same roof profile and some 2000cs have electric sunroofs same sardine can motor.

I knew only about the sunroofs being made off factory for 2000CS but I'm not sure of.

To support that I found nothing about sunroof parts on the RealOEM for 2000CS but might be again I look in a wrong way or US-market cars were equipped differently.

Thanks Bob - that is very helpful to know.

Hello Krysztof,
Did you find the parts you needed?
By the way; in my opinion de 2000cs sunroof is different from de e9. Only matching is the roof opening. The construction underneath is different. For example the position of the front drainpipes is aligned at the side instead of the corner. So at the end your headliner don’t fit.
By the way: I want to buy a sunroof part ( the metal cover) of e9

Hi,

I did not find any so far in reasonable price or condition. I mean they were some for sale but they were away or sick expensive.
It is easier to find the roof without the opening or...

... complete 2000cs for parting as they can be get relatively cheap (renovation cost are higher the market value of these cars)

There was a CSL roof on German ebay. There was also a 2000cs from memory.
CSL is thin gauge steel but would that work for you?

Thanks for hint.

Do You mean eBay.de or eBaykleinanzeigen.de?

The best would be to have typical roof skin with opening or even the best cut with part of pillars and complete frame for the roof mechanism and sunroof flap.
I know it might be difficult to be found.

For the record...

I was told that typical roof (non CLS) should be in range of 1000EUR but it may change

Yes, kleinianziegen.
You may need to lift your budget mate - stuff is getting hard to find.
Other option is to buy a wreck. If you do I need a couple of body panels, as does a guy out here, may offset your cost.
Know a couple of guys in Europe that may be able to help if you want me to reach out?

Thanks for info. I do agree with the cost of parts getting higher. That's why I'm giving myself some time to gather parts before project will start not to buy in a hurry later on.

I have few contacts in Poland but if You have some you could share on PM I would be happy.
