Hi All,

My name is Waddy, and I'm a veteran 2002 guy. I sold it on Ebay last year.

I've always wanted a 3.0CS, or 2800CS so I'm joining you guys.

Best place for parts? Best year? Pricing? Help me.

Any input is gratefully received.

All the best..

E9

I have found a lot of good parts at:

http://www.coupeguy.com/

This guy seems to have everything and is reasonably priced.

If your interested in buying, I have a '71 2800 CS 3.0 for sale. Let me know if you want to see some pics.

coupe suggestions

As a former 2002 owner, ( I had 3: partial restorations on 2) I would caution you on a few things.

Although there are some similarities, (unibody construction for one) the differences between them are vast.

While the 3.0 is definitely one of the best looking BMW's ever, it was definitely not constructed for the long haul or with simplicity in mind. (body-wise). The front fender top areas and the rocker panels represent 2 prime examples that leave you scratching your head...what were they thinking... because they are both adept at rusting from the inside out and with multiple layers that conceal the metal decay until it's too late.

Most of the veteran coupe owners will say the same thing...spend as much as you can for the best car available, and the best car usually means the most rust free.

If you're cheap and poor like me, you can spend time (alot) doing the restoration yourself, if you can weld and know a thing or two about sheet metal and autobody, and is willing to pick up parts on EBay or the local scrap yard.

Because the coupe was the flagship of the BMW's at it's time, you can expect to pay a lot more than 2002 prices.

The good news is mechanically it is almost as simple as the 02, with points, distributor and no computer or electronics.

The upshot is the mechanical stuff should be less of a concern. Focus on the condition of the body. Rust is our enemy.
