Hi All,
I joined recently after buying attached 74 Cs 3.0 RHD, now being shipped to Australia from Uk. Very stock pretty good provenance on it, full rebuild about 5 yrs ago. Polaris with a vinyl hardtop, yep, that was a thing for about 2 weeks in the 70's.
You guys have been amazing, very welcoming and helpful. Too bad there's not a e9 global get together, be great to meet in person and put faces to names some time.

Glad to be here and thanks for having me.

Cheers,
D

Welcome Darren, looks like a very well preserved example ...the genteel climate of the UK was a kinder to the velour than mine here. Yes, the vinyl roof was a bit of a UK thing but is all part of the heritage. Lots of E9'ers in Sydney so in good hands . Cheers, Simon

Hi Darren, well done on the purchase, cant wait to see it in person.
Have you joined the Australian e9 Facebook page? We are having a group drive on the 19th November, would be good if you could come although sounds like your car will be in transit.
I noticed your auto selector guide is sitting in the dash in front of the wood speaker grill. Is that fixed in the wood dash?
Will your car be eligible for Luxury Car Tax when it arrives?

I checked the members list and your name was not on it. Search for “Bmw e9 register Australia” in Facebook. Good bunch of guys.

Thanks everyone.
Hi Boobouna - thats right, in transit until early December. Yes I'll be stung with LCT too, although not by much.
Hadn't noticed the auto selector guide was there to be honest - where should it actually be?
Looking at retrofit of original A/C and sourcing the parts etc now - other than that and maybe the odd change here or there I'll leave it pretty much as is.

I'll jump on the FB page.

Cheers,
D

Looks to be in exceptional condition. The vinyl roof is awesome. Definitely a big plus. They seemed to be quite popular additions on U.K. E9s. I wonder did they serve any purpose? (maybe insulation from cold) or purely asthetics?

I read online that come early 75' to help offload the remaining E9's that hadn't sold they offered vinyl hardtops to appeal a wider range of (presumably vinyl-loving) customers. I
Intend to basically keep it as is mechanically - bar the aircon retrofit (assuming I can find all the correct pieces) and maybe 16inch rims. Keen to drive 'as is' for a while and experience that before tinkering.

Hi All, UK based, just north of London, just joined, having just retired from working on customers BMW's for the last 40 years, I have just bought a 1971 3.0CS manual and a 1972 3.0 CSL and maybe a 3.0csi bitsa, only want one but they were offered and it seemed rude not to, The 71CS has stood in a damp garage for 35 years so the (incorrect 2800cc) engine is stuck, I have a spare CSi engine so I am thinking of dropping that in and converting to injection, those carbs are such a pain, needs a full restoration but is very sound apart from the A posts and lower left front wing plus the usual wing mount area along the top, rockers and rear arches are good as is the boot and bonnet, The CSL has been modified over the years, wrong colour, 5 speed OD gearbox, 3500cc engine, and std. seats, I am thinking that I will have to restore it to factory correct specification, the CSi is a bitsa, it has E24 seats, auto transmission and rust in unusual places but looks good externally, I get the feeling that it was once very rusty and the exterior panels were replaced but no cavity wax was used, I have quite a few E9 parts to swop for bits that I need, Pat

Fantastic - Ive got the blower, console face plate, now need to the intermediate plastic piece between blower and console face plate. Will fit a sander compressor or something like that and a new condenser I guess. I also think the sides of the console are slightly deeper on cars with A/C. Need to meet up and compare Boobuna!

For now I’m going run the original set up to see how it goes. I need to get the York compressor off to a specialist and see what condition it’s in. I use Auto Ignition Co in Alexandria, they seem to know a lot about the old units.
