Hi Everyone,

Sunday the 2800CS was pulled out of my parent's garage where it was parked 23 years ago. It was trucked to my place and I cleaned it up a little. I haven't tried to start it yet, and it's suffering from the Karmann weight reduction process as you can see in the pictures.

From the pictures inside the garage, you can see that a rat has been busy. The pool of liquid on the floor is from the rat eating through a radiator hose.

I've been looking at this site quite a bit, and am both inspired and terrified.

May the force be with you

Stay inspired... and lets hope that your wallet doesn't need as much penetration as the rust may have made into the metal of your fine E9 in charmonix white.

Where are you located?... knowledge through local E9 enthusiasts could save you a bunch of time and cash.

Success in your quest!

Actually, the car is Bristol, a non-metallic grey and that's the original color.

I'm in Marblehead, not very far from Boston.

Bristol...

is a great color! It would be great to see this one back on the road.

Marblehead , know it well , we take the coupe to the park at the lighthouse on Marblehead Neck frequently during the summer. Cheers from Charlestown

Bristolgrau! What a neat color. I was contemplating it before settling on Polaris. Paintwork and Interior look remarkably well preserved for a car that's been in storage for 23 years. Good luck with the project.

Thanks everyone for your replies. It's good to know there are some locals with the same affliction.

One of the reasons that the interior is in good shape is that my Dad hated the "wet-ass" vinyl upholstery in the summer and seat covers made. Unfortunately the interior smells pretty bad from mildew.

My father bought the car new in 1970 and restored it in the mid eighties. Then he drove it through one Massachusetts winter and the fenders started rusting. In 1989, the car developed some minor problem (guibo if I remember correctly) and he just parked it and never got around to fixing it. Meanwhile I was mucking about in California with Citroens (11CV and DS21) and Peugeots. I've been trying to keep a V6 505 running, but it's getting impossible to get parts and the CS has become a lot more attactive. The CS was also the car I learned to drive in, courted my wife in, and had adventures in in Europe, California, and New England, so there's some personal attachment to it.

This Saturday morning I will be taking my coupe to the Cars & Coffee gathering at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline MA, it is ~8am to ~10am this Saturday. Come on down and lets connect.

Thanks for the reply, was just curious.

With a bit of luck you could get it up and running with a full service changing all oils, lubricating everything etc. But to keep it running would mean a bit more work I think.

A good recond firm could do wonders to the car.

Good luck!

Really rare color!

I find that bristol does enhance the effect of the chrome surroundings. Would love to see more photos.
Best regards

I thought I'd update this old thread with what's been happening with the car over the last four years. It didn't look too bad at first except for some bubbling on top of the fenders.

Then reality set in.
