kiawah island concours + car show

everyone - the kiawah show is the real deal. it was done well and had some great cars. there were about 50 judged cars pre-war and post-war. 3 classes in each - open, closed and sports + racing.

Automobiles in the Concours Division will be evaluated by a panel of expert judges on the basis of authenticity, state of preservation or restoration, historical significance, and elegance. Each class winner becomes a candidate for the top award: "Best of Show- Concours d’Elegance."
The Classic Division will include automobiles 1974 and older. Criteria used by the Selection Committee will include overall condition and appearance, as well as rarity and historical significance. Although this class will not be formally judged, awards will be presented including People’s Choice and the Mayor’s Trophy.

this is an event that i think we need to attend next year ... and bring our coupes. this year there was one coupe in the classic division. there was a gorgeous '72 2002 tii - verona red ... and the most original 2002 or tii that i have ever seen.

some of the highlights in the show this year
'26 bugatti race car
300sl gullwing
190sl
'52 aston db2

'64 aston db4
'66 aston db6
60 alfa

and a bunch more.

Missing coupe

My friend John lives on Kiawah and owns a very, very nice restored Verona 2800cs, and yet he was not invited. He also has an e24, e28 (Hartge), 930 Turbo, e30 M3, Jag Mk 2, etc.

I have no idea why he was not included. I can tell you the doors on his coupe shut better than any I have seen.

Next year they need to include him. Tx for the heads up on the show. I lvied in Charleston for 9 years, so a good excuse to go back.

We went to the Hilton Head Concours the week before and the same coupe was there. Making the show circuit I guess.

I met and talked to the man and yes he is a restorer.
I asked him specifically if he was on the forum and he said he doesn't belong to any forum.
The car was nice as Scott says but at the Hilton Head show it had not been detailed very well. It was also in the Saturday Car Club Jamboree which is not the regular concours on Sunday.
This was the first year for the show at Kiawah so I'm sure it will take a while to work the bugs out.

There are 2 parts to this show - the concours and the classic division. The Classic Division will include automobiles 1974 and older. Criteria used by the Selection Committee will include overall condition and appearance, as well as rarity and historical significance. Although this class will not be formally judged, awards will be presented including People’s Choice and the Mayor’s Trophy.

no idea why they wouldn't include a nice coupe. there was plenty of room to spare.

I had an email discussion with Bob (the owner of this coupe yesterday), i asked him to register his coupe on e9-driven ... i forgot to snap a pic of the VIN. Bob wouldn't put the car in a concours as he knows changes have been made. its titled as a 73, but not sure if it was a late 72 or not ... the overriders are wrong for a 73, and i forgot to look at the bumper brackets. the hood + side grilles looked to have been painted rather than matte chrome or polished chrome. and the minilite wheels?

overall the show + concours came off pretty well. i would do it again.
