Hi all, new to the forum.

I recent purchased a barn find 1975 CSI. (Silver)

The fun starts here! Where to start ?

I am no mechanic, but keen to get the engine running.

Current state of play:

1) engine not ceased
2) turns over via battery
3) spark plugs dry, and have a spark to each
4) fuel pump filter cleaned, and pump running via key
5) fuel pressure at 2.5 bar, and circulating via fuel rail to injectors
6) injector contacts in distributor working

Problem is the engine will not fire.
It seems that the injectors and the cold start valve are not getting sufficient voltage to operate.

I have connected 12 volts direct via a spare battery and they pulse.

I have also turned the engine over via starter fluid, through the air intake, and it briefly runs.

Question I have are:

A) What voltage is required for the injectors to work in normal conditions ?

B) does the Ecu feed direct to the injectors ?

C) what terminals within the ECU confirm it has a power feed from the main relay ?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Kr

Hello there Andy

PM me your email address and ill send over the D-Jet manual

Recommend a back-to-front fuel system sort-out

Andy, if the car is a barn-find and sat dormant for many years, and if the car fires up with starting fluid, it means you have spark but not fuel. I'd strongly recommend performing a back-to-front fuel-system sort-out.

Open up the gas tank by removing the pick-up tube. Shine a flashlight in it. At a minimum, if it's been sitting for years with gas in it, the gas has probably turned to shellac, and the tank will probably need to be cleaned. It may be rusty or have sediment in it. But start there.

Then inspect the bottom of the pickup-tube for accumulated crud. Blow through both the inlet and outlet parts of the pick-up tube with compressed air. I've seen them completely clogged on tiis.

Methodically disconnect each fuel line, rear to front, and blow through it with compressed air. Replace any fuel line that is cracked, swollen, soft to the touch, or rock-hard. Wise to replace every single one regardless of how they look.

Replace every fuel filter. Look at the D-Jet documentation for location of any fuel screens (I'm not a D-Jet guy). Inspect and clean as necessary.

Rob,

Thanks for responding, I have working through the system and have done every filter, and checked the fuel pressure, at the D-rail. (2.5 bar)

Cleaned the start valve, and tested via 12 volts.

But reinstalled, it does not actuate, when turning over the engine.

I also cannot hear the injectors clicking, when the ignition is on, and moving the throttle bar.

I am therefore trying to work out, how the injectors ( and start valve) are powered ?

Next step I think, is the main relay, ECU and the relationship with manifold pressure switch

But struggling with not enough detail.

Main relay, feeds where in the ECU? Etc etc

Check pm

The relay beside the ECU controls the power for the FI system.
Check your pm, I have one of these and have done some fault finding.

Good luck
