Hello!

I'm in the middle of rebuilding my Weber carbs. My question is: the carbs have been sitting for a while and I've been soaking various parts to loosen things up. I'm trying to remove/inspect accelerator rod and spring. There is no movement at all! Is there a trick to removing or is mine stuck? Any ideas?

Thanks!

try Pierce

Hello,

Try giving Pierce Manifolds (Gilroy, CA) a call, they have been very helpful in the past for tech questions and have all the parts.

The main shaft is apparently very tricky to remove and easy to damage.

These are side drafts. I'll post before and after pics!

Thank you Shanon! They were very helpful!

Doh sorry I didnt read the headline.

The accel pump mechanism in these is fragile, soak with Liquid Wrench or such from above and below for a long time. Then you can alternately lightly tap with something that hits the piston like a punch of some sort, don't use the rod, and then lightly pull to try and break it free. The pump piston is held onto the connecting rod by a very thin pin.

Try a google search on the frozen pump, I remember some posts about the same, the Alfa boards are good source also.

The yahoo group Sidedraft Central has a lot of experts on these carbs and they can also help with tuning and other predicaments.

You might try soaking it in diesel fuel. That stuff will eat through most crap and definitely will loosen things up. A fellow named Sammy Hale taught me this. He was one of the best crank grinders in the country and used it to remove hardened crap etc from the sludge traps on crank shafts.

+1

Diesel will take almost anything off

Find a friend with an ultrasonic cleaner and clean the carb bodies in there using the correct solution. That will help tremendously. Even after a thorough cleaning by hand and w/ spray solvents you will be surprised what comes out in the ultrasonic bath.

I am going through this right now w/ a set of Mikunis on my other car.
