Rear Seat Delete

Seeing how nobody ever sits in the rear (except my furry friend) and knowing that I might want to preserve the leather in case anyone small enough might want too, I offer my version of the rear seat delete (and tucked my battery under the seat at the same time).

I removed the tar based sound deadener and replaced it with a polymer brush on product on every surface under the seats. Three coats for now and more if desired but works very well so good for now. The floor and back are 1/4" ply and everything else the self explanatory.

Takes about two minutes to remove the delete (delete delete?) and probably 20 minutes to install the seats. Everything attaches with velcro - carpet glued to plywood panels.

Net weight saving including battery of 80lbs (not including dog).

Doing a 10 day road trip with my wife and the dog so the extra space will be welcome.

Very nice! Great use of sound coating!

Have you considered installing extra large (paw sized) electric window switches suitable for your friend? I'm sure he would appreciate such a gesture.

polymer brush on product

Can you tell us a little about the "polymer brush on product"?

Is it for heat insulation as well as sound??

Why did you use that instead of the more traditional Dynamat type product?

Very nice job by the way.

Why did you use that instead of the more traditional Dynamat

Partly out of curiosity but mostly because it is so easy to apply on irregular surfaces. Supposedly it can be sprayed but for small areas like this why bother. Brush washes clean in water. About 1 quart did 3 layers and am happy with the results. More layers applied = better deadening.

None of the sheet or mat products just can provide the uniform coating on irregular surfaces - it's the difference between painting and wallpaper. If you just did a full in/out down to bare metal resto then spray the underside and interior cabin.

There is no heat insulation qualities that I have found claimed - for that the foil backed Dynamat would be better. Also in large flat areas Dynamat should be considered assuming equal performance from both products.
