The discussion on Walter's Ground Control setup and Andrew's insight got me thinking about shock tower reinforcement. For most of us who have not experienced failure, is it usually the base of the tower that needs extra reinforcement ?How is the elephant skin handled ? Etc.

It's pretty much all in my old thread that Andrew posted. The failure happens at the top. The metal there is folded over and weak.

The elephant skins are easy to remove, remove the trunk boards then undo the trunk support nut (can be repainted after reinstall) and if the skin is stuck run a plastic putty knife or similar inderneath as you carefully work it free.

Do this now before you get an ugly surprise.
