Hi all,

I tried searching the threads first, but there are SO many threads that I seem to not be able to find the right one.

My sunroof is manual, and I have seen a few factory electric sunroof cars. I would love to convert mine to electric (while I am in there rebuilding the whole dang thing due to rust for those of you who haven't seen my project thread). I am wondering if there is a known motor setup that folks here like, rather than sourcing a factory original setup. (in the same vein of converting our window regulators to the improved E28 units).

I saw some talk about Volvo parts for this, but can't find that thread now either.

Any help? Thanks!

Thanks aearch, that's terrific. If I remember, the 911 motors were in the rear of the car (but I usually remember wrong). Is that the case with this setup? Is there a diagram of the placement of everything? Do let me know if you have the cables- as I may as well buy them from you than someone else assuming that you would like to move them along.

Thanks again-

Paul

Hi Paul,

That frame that you are rebuilding is manual-sunroof specific. The manual transmission is above the crank, as you know. The electric motor and transmission is behind the sunroof in a manual. So you can convert it, but you may need a new trim panel up front to properly conceal the motor.

Thanks Markos,
Yes I was hoping that that was the only difference in the frame. Meaning, that’s why I am digging into this now just in case the frame itself wouldn’t work with the motor.

But it sounds like it will with the modification? I will deal with the trim as needed if I ever get that far LOL

Thanks again! I’ll start sourcing those parts and keep going forward.
