Ready set GO! I just wanted to start this because I didn't see it listed in events. Eventually I'd like to see a bigger BMW showing than Porsche. We have the numbers and E9's and E3's are perfect grand touring cars.....well that's what they are! Even though there were fewer BMW coupes and E3's produced, we can have a bigger showing than the pre-75 Porsche's. Plus it's fun to show the Porsche guys/gals how to drive :)....they have a lot to learn....Oooooo baby!...BMW has smoked Porsche in real races over the years ; they will say different, but I beg to differ.....CA Targa is not timed, it's not a race, I get it.....but tell that to everyone at the end of the day....With the pre-75 only rule...We all qualify!!!! Make it next year!! 2017 pics to come!

Shane,

I too would love to see more BMWs but this event was created by vintage Porsche guys so it isn't likely we will ever surpass their count and I'm OK with that. See you tomorrow.

Awesome first day on the Targa, 100 cars including 40 Porsches. Did laps at Willow Springs, headed up to Tehachapi and then north on narrow, winding roads to Lake Isabella, lunch at Kernville Brewing, love the Session IPA. Just over 200 miles, after driving to Lancaster from HB at 5AM that is. Tomorrow we skirt north end of Death Valley and then do the Bristlecone Pines in the White Mountains then on to Mammoth Lakes for the night.

Had a great time touring the eastern Sierras, total miles 1130, 22 mpg including track time at Willow Springs and a short stint att 110mph headed up 395. Keeping it to 70-75 on the way home I got 25mpg.

I was able to download the pics to Shutterfly but apparently they are going through some big upgrade and I can't upload the videos (mainly on the track at Willow Springs) until next week. So, here are the pics for now. See link, click on pictures and video tab for around 172 pics. Some are redundant or very similar. I snap a bunck hoping a couple good ones turn out ok. Also, there are a couple pictures that Chris Macha took that are in the album, thanks Chris. Enjoy! Great trip, awesome scenery, driving at Willow Springs was a highlight, as well as the back-road to Kernville and the trip up to Bristlecone Forest, great uphill when driving from the 395.

If Hyperlink doesn't work, just copy and paste Link into browser: https://targaca2017.shutterfly.com/

Here is a teaser pic at Willow Springs....
