Hi, I have installed a new rubber gasket from BMW and it so hard that I can hardly close the lid. Is there anyway to soften those? Adjusting the hinges will creat an uneven edge with the fenders. What else can I do?
Thanks

I hope, but till then I am afraid to damage other parts from having to slam hard the lid shot.

Way back in the day when slot car racing was the thing, we used to soften the tires with oil of wintergreen. Go forward 45 years and I just googled 'rubber softening' and a site recommended a mixture of oil of wintergreen and water so somethings don't change and I am sure it is not harmful to paint. And as previously mentioned here several other sites mention heat guns on a low setting. No comments please, but at times I use sterile lubricant which is a non petroleum based product and does not deteriorate the rubber. Ok I asked for it
