The BMW 2800 CS VIN 2202577 was manufactured on December 30th, 1969 (my little brother's B-day!) and delivered on January 13th, 1970 to the BMW importer Wolfgang Denzel in Vienna. The original colour was Polaris metallic, paintcode 060.

It was an orange peal Ceylon when I got it, now sports an early Alpina racer 2-tone tribute: Schwartz (black) and "Arizona" (a shade south of Colorado)

VIN number of the blumax

Built in September 1969 and delivered to its original owner at the factory in Munich on 1 October 1969--BLUMAX wears VIN #2270016--

I had known #2270015 (the long time owner was a neighbor of mine in the late 1970's in Laguna Niguel< CA) and saw it again a couple of years ago at the annual BMWCCA clean car event in San Diego--it is in need of some serious TLC--#2270011 is in need of repair and DP who posts here is the owner--was hoping to fill in the gaps of the earliest numbers to see if they are still around.

Interesting, VIN #s seem to 'bounce' around a bit.

Your early example '69 is 227XXXX, mine and another early Frenchie mention on this thread are 220xxxx', then I saw some 228's.

I wonder if the first 3 numbers have something to do with delivery destinations more than chronological order. Or did they make a few thousands and then they 'sat' at the factory waiting for dealer orders?

Delivery dates seems to be within a couple weeks after the build dates.

Anybody know the VIN logic per chance?
