Asking for a friend (really)

Member @Lambert who lives locally is replacing his fenders. He's fighting with the gaps between the fenders and the hood. At the moment they are 8mm, where BMW's own repair manual describes 5 to 6 mm.

What gaps do other members have?
Is anyone else having a gap of 8mm?

Erik.

Hi Erik,
when fixing the fenders you will have to force down the side facing the hood. This will result in a slight declination towards the hood and the decrease of the gap.
I remember working with a jack and wood which I put between the fender and the ceiling only to achieve the force needed and to hold it in position to apply the first welding points.

Correction: The gap is 5.2 mm:

The pic should show the declination of the fender towards the hood!

Sorry, I gave a wrong value!!
The distance on my car is 5.2mm!!

Without having a closer look on how the upper
edges of the fenders have been "restored' and without the upper front part not yet being installed it's hard to give advice here.
Try to install the fender trims together with the front trim to judge the contour line of front and sides!
