Then there is Phil Collins. One of the biggest names in Rock and Roll to lose their hearing. Think Neil Young and others. Back in 1980 or '81, poor Phil was getting divorced. He was entrenched in the Rock world and could summon great creativity and power to express his feelings that such a life event will have on a person. So he constructed the mega hit : "In The Air Tonight". Tell me, who would not just love to spit out vitriol about a failed relationship, then end it with a full-on banging on drums? Seems very therapeutic, right? Enjoy!

Isaac Hayes recorded a breakout hit for the Movie" Shaft". He later conducted an orchestra for this song at his 2002 Induction into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Never seen a conductor use such motions. Plus it is still an amazing theme song. Shaft debuted in 1971. Later on, in 1977, he played the roll of Gandolph Fitch in a Rockford Files episode some of us may recall. He would never call Jimmy by his correct name....that is, until the final scene. Just to, well, you know!

So many great submissions here. Just great to hear what our group connects with. Sometimes I like to listen to some saxophone. Back in 1974, AWB released "Pick Up The Pieces". Many bands cover this and it is always a great song. Back in 1998, Phil Collins assembled his "big band" which included many recognizable super-musicians. George Duke, Gerald Albright, Sadao Watanabe many others. In July of 1998 he played Pick up the Pieces, live of course, in Montreaux and there is SO much saxophone, that this should probably last you the rest of the year. You need to budget 23 minutes though well worth it:
